One more extreme climatic event... These last heat waves follow that of 2003,
then those of 2019. But this year it was consecutively in June and then again inJuly that the 40 degree mark was exceeded in metropolitan France. Something thatis about to become normal, even before summer! And already this month of May 2022has been the hottest recorded in the territory. Heat to which are added episodesof late frosts and devastating hail which have serious consequences on crops.Drought is widespread, extreme in some places (less than 100mm of precipitationsince the beginning of the year). ---- Obviously, France is not the only oneconcerned: giant fires in Australia, Greece, Spain, etc., drought in Italy, herdsof cows decimated by the heat in the United States...In the countries of the South, which are overwhelmingly agricultural or pastoral, the situation is even more catastrophic. Somalia, for example, has been in astate of emergency since November, and is experiencing its worst water shortagein 40 years. Currently, in the month of May alone, the number of people displacedby drought stands at 33,000 in Somalia and could in total exceed one and a halfmillion over the entire crisis period, i.e. 10% of the country's population! We are taking the brunt of the consequences of climate change, which has beenanticipated for more than 30 years.Contrary feelingsFaced with this situation, we are alone with our feelings, which are oftencontrary. We have the impression that we are not doing enough individually, themedia and political powers not missing an opportunity to encourage us "to smallgestures" and individual action, maintaining in us a strong feeling of guilt.Even though in reality it is the proletarians who pay the price: schools becomesaunas, some not even having shaded areas in the playground; in poorly insulatedor poorly designed accommodation, we wait for the end of the heat wave at morethan 30 degrees inside; in the workplace, conditions become unbearable.Fear also mixes with dejection: how to thwart such a long, complex andlarge-scale process? There are culpritsThe Libertarian Communist Union wishes to recall that the first culprits are tobe found among those who maintain the capitalist system: the capitaliststhemselves of course, but also the States and institutions which reinforce themand do nothing to correct the situation. The culprits are the Bolloré, Lafarge,Total and others who continue to plunder the resources of the planet, and it isthe Macron, Hollande, Sarkozy and all the others who facilitate their task. Theculprits are also Bayer, Limagrain, Danone and the agro-food industry as a whole, which are monopolizing land, developing treeless agriculture by taking themonopoly of water.Inconsequential institutionsEven as we go straight into the wall, the concreting continues at the samestaggering pace, we are expanding the airports, the peripherals. In cities, townhalls welcome the rare green spaces that are not enough to lower the temperature.Water-intensive sectors, which we can do without, still benefit from subsidieswhen market gardeners are unable to sow due to lack of water. And "at the sametime", the "transition" only reinforces the agro-industrial model which has doneso much damage to the land and to the people who cultivate it through thecreation of giant water retention basins and industrial methanizers subsidized. And in the midst of all this, global greenhouse gas emissions are still not goingdown. The necessary collective angerIn the midst of this devastation and distress, popular resistance exists. Thefact is that all environmental advances have been obtained through struggle: theabandonment of the airport project in Notre Dame-des-Landes, the planned ban onglyphosate, the surf park project in Saint-Père-en Retz , stopping GMOs...In the face of contempt, we must transform our feelings of fear and despondencyinto collective anger, strengthen the struggles of today and build those oftomorrow. More than ever before, we must form a common front with all thepolitical, union and association forces that take stock of the historicalchallenge facing our class. We need to build a balance of power capable ofpreventing the capitalists from harming the environment any longer, on which ourliving conditions depend. Our ecological horizon is a triple revolution: that ofproduction methods, that of lifestyles as well as that of exchanges. Finally, we support all the workers who will exercise their right of withdrawaland express our solidarity with all those who suffer the consequences of thisheat wave at work and at home.Libertarian Communist Union, July 15, 2022https://www.unioncommunistelibertaire.org/?Canicule-developper-une-colere-collective-plutot-que-la-peur-et-l-abattement-9670_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.caSPREAD THE INFORMATION
