 At Family Planning in Isère, resources have been put in place to reach out to

young people more broadly and to promote the self-organization of volunteers on
issues of sexuality and gender. ---- In a context of liberalization of
anti-patriarchal struggles, the need for self-organization based on concrete
demands is increasingly felt. To lead these battles, our class has organized
itself in various ways, both within unions and associations such as Family
Planning. ---- In June 1961, while the government was carrying out repressive
policies on abortion, the first family planning center was born in Grenoble and
carried out clandestine abortions to counter unwanted pregnancies, organizing
itself at the confederal level to allow a access to health on sexual issues.

It then established itself as an important counter-power in feminist and LGBTI
struggles, now counting more than 70 departmental associations. It was in
November 2021 that one of them (AD 38) saw the birth within it of a group of
young activists ready to get involved in issues of sexuality and gender.

By and for young people
Starting from the observation that the Planning was aimed mainly at a young
public without succeeding in really involving them in its fight, the employees of
the departmental association of Isère decided to take on two students in civic
service by entrusting them with the task of creating a group of young people to
organize themselves on issues of sexuality and gender.

But in this context of the outbreak of struggles through identity politics, how
can we ensure a new generation of feminist and LGBTI activists who do not move
away from a unitary perspective? Faced with liberal individualism, refocusing the
question of improving living conditions is therefore a primary necessity.

After a first year of discovering how the association works and trying to grasp
its internal issues, the Groupe Jeunes du Planning familial 38 is positioning
itself with a view to promoting access to information by young people for young
people by organizing prevention stands and school interventions.

It also tries to fit into a unitary perspective by participating in the
inter-orgas against the extreme right, by organizing a free outdoor screening of
the film Pride[1], relating the convergence of workers' and LGBTI struggles and
by inviting student unions to come and introduce themselves.

Observed by a few activists at the confederal level, the Groupe Jeunes 38 is
making a little headlines and the possibility of creating new youth groups in
other departmental planning associations is mentioned. Despite a rather positive
assessment for such a recent group, there is still a need for new and new
activists to come and strengthen it.

Far from being confined to the local level of Isère, the presence of
self-managing activists in a place of self-organization such as Planning remains
an important issue and internal battles on democratic issues are still to be waged.
