On Saturday, we were aware of the unfortunate news of the death of a
sixty-year-old worker from the cleaning service of the Madrid City Council, aftera heat stroke caused him to collapse in the middle of the street, early in theafternoon and more temperature of 40 Cº, this being the cause of his death. ----When a company and an administration allow a sixty-year-old worker to work infull sun, in the heat wave, in the hottest hours of the day, and at more than 40Cº, we cannot speak under any circumstances of a work accident; let's call thingsby his name and let's say loud and clear that this act is a murder, and that thisworker is a new victim of the bosses' terrorism.Disappointing are the statements of certain political officials, who instead ofself-criticism and seek solutions so that events like this do not happen again, dedicate themselves to washing their hands and looking the other way. Like theones made yesterday by the Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, in which she blamesthe death of this worker on climate change and the climate crisis that derivesfrom it. Diverting from the focus the clear responsibility of the Madrid cleaningcompany, which did not put any prior measures in terms of occupational riskprevention, given the heat wave we are going through. And that it would consistof changing garbage collection schedules and increasing the workforce given theworking conditions. At CGT we are very clear that climate change is affecting our lives. Drasticchanges are necessary in our productive model and our way of life to try to curbthe consequences of the increase in temperature on Earth, which sooner ratherthan later leads us to collapse. But that the labor minister washes her hands anduses it as an excuse not to assume responsibilities in the face of such a seriousevent, is at least outrageous. This worker has not died because of climate change, he has died because thecompany where he worked (URBASER) has allowed a sixty-year-old man to work atmore than 40 Cº. He has died because an administration (Madrid City Council)allows the company with which he privatized this service to have the staffworking under those conditions. He has died because the local, regional and stategovernments are incapable of approving measures to avoid these situations, andonly dedicate themselves to launching recommendations and guides to goodpractice. He has died because the Labor Inspectorate, dependent on the Ministryof Labor, ignores the complaints that are urgently registered on this matter.Agency, which for weeks, does not go to work centers to check them. The job insecurity in a sector such as cleaning, which should be public, skipsall the alarms. This essential service, whose first and last goal is to enrichthemselves, is left in the hands of private companies, and once again thesecompanies put benefits before the lives of workers, as in the case of the deathof this worker. From CGT we demand the application of urgent measures to regulate the harshworking conditions outdoors due to rising temperatures. How many more people haveto die for the government to do something? We demand a rigorous investigation bythe Justice on this case. And we demand responsibilities from the URBASERcompany. It is evident that the protocols for the prevention of occupationalrisks due to high temperatures have not been complied with.Let's call things by his name. Let us fight so that these events do not happenagain. Because those of us who die are those of us who are in the workplace, inthose subhuman conditions and not those who are in the ministries lamentingthrough their twitter account.https://www.cgtpv.org/a-40-co-y-trabajando-a-pleno-sol-no-es-una-muerte-es-un-asesinato/_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.caSPREAD THE INFORMATION
