In this month of pride, the human resources departments of many companies color
their corporate logos with rainbows, write emotional speeches, and expose theirnon-heterosexual staff on social networks. In this way they show the world thatthe company is responsible, and that it loves everyone on its team very much,regardless of their personal life. ---- We know that this is not the case, thatcompanies not only act against the welfare of their workers when they have theopportunity, but also act against the interests of LGBT people for being workingclass and for discrimination. ---- Let's talk about solidarity and mutualsupport, something that looks beyond appropriating the pride and symbols of otherstruggles, to then spend the rest of the year ignoring or discriminating againstentire groups.Refuse to participate in machismoRefusing to participate in misogynist and sexist dynamics is also refusing to bepart of the same patriarchy that persecutes LGBT people. There is no need forgreat promises of change, nor pompous speeches about integration. Only to abandona vocabulary and behaviors with which many generations of men were educated, andwhich are imposed as a model of harmful masculinity.In an environment free of machismo and misogyny, of violent and imposingmasculine roles, LGBT people will have a little more confidence, in themselvesand in the entire workforce, to defend their rights.Review the company's conciliation policiesBiases and prejudices can lead to injustices or unnecessary procedures that onlyaccentuate discrimination against LGBT mothers and fathers. Reviewing theconciliation policy, clarifying doubts for the company, informing aboutnon-discrimination and renewing what is missing is a good starting point. Thepaperwork should not include a rationale for anyone's sexual orientation.An active participation of the LGBT community can also mean obtaining rights forthe entire workforce.Protest dress and uniform codesBy enforcing dress codes in the workplace, you set a standard for what is or isnot acceptable to see women or men.
