Anarchist prisoner Giannis Michailidis, who has been on hunger strike for 68 days
in Greece despite being granted parole, announced that he suspended his hungerstrike after the appeals court rejected his release. ---- Here is Michailidis'full statement: ---- I have found myself in the unfortunate situation byannouncing that I have suspended this ordeal without gaining anythingsubstantial. However, this struggle is not over yet and I have no intention ofleaving it unfinished. The suspension is temporary; Some of the reasons are theobvious ones. Not some. At this point, I apologize to those who supported me fornot being able to share their reasons with the public. Should I have to continue,I will publicly and in detail explain the reasons why I have chosen to suspendtemporarily. I will continue to fight for what I deserve and I hope I will nothave to continue.The justice system has been humiliated. The only achievement of this hungerstrike so far is that it has exposed the contradictions of the[justice system].In line with the barricades I tried to remove, there were statements by thelawyers that changed the arbitrariness of the "pull them in, throw the keys"mentality. But my personal desire remained in the air. And my commitment not tostop seems to have failed at this point. This of course weighs heavily on me,even though I know my intention is to continue - if necessary - at a moreproductive time in the near future. But as I said before, not everything can besaid right now, and I hope it doesn't have to be said. In concluding thisannouncement, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to those who havesupported me in any way. Those who take sides are those who transcend theirsocial roles because empathy prevails. But most of all, those who fight tooth andnail to break the enforced silence, those who are beaten in the street to expresstheir solidarity, those who take risks and those who starve in prisons. I owe mylife to the last one. Without all this, the conditions for this suspension wouldnot have arisen at this time. That's all for now.
