With more and more ease and frequency we talk about the third world war, in
progress or in progress. In fact, from the moment of the Russian aggressionagainst Ukraine, which evidently turned out to be a clash between the US andRussia through an intermediary victim, the risk that the tensions and conflictsthat have accumulated between the three superpowers that claim to dominate theworld will fall into a point of no return he is very serious. So much so that theother hot spot of the skirmish so far, between the United States and China, thetwo real pretenders according to all observers to dominate the destinies of theworld in the coming centuries, is turning into an open cause for confrontation. In recent weeks, Taiwan has returned to the center of world attention, the weaklink in a conflict that could break out in that area, sanctioning the newgeography of world power, the supremacy of the Indo-Pacific that would relegateEurope to a mere periphery . So say the strategists of geopolitics. From thevisit of the president of the US chamber, Nancy Pelosi, to Taipei, to thecontinuous Chinese military exercises around the island, to the resentfuldeclarations of protection of freedom and integrity on both sides, there is aproliferation of positions that seem wanting to precipitate the situation at anymoment. In short, the pattern that led to the war in Ukraine is repeated, inwhich the parties, rather than dialogue, as in the statutes of contemporarystates should happen, launch mutual accusations and take positions so rigid thatthey leave no space (from their point of view) to any mediation. Thus the warserved. But what would eventually open up between the US and China would not beone of the many wars that have been fought in recent decades and are beingfought, it would be by definition a world war. War that apparently many believecan be fought without the atomic risk. Meanwhile, whether we are near or far froma precipice that should make us react and work with all our strength to preventit, propaganda is in action to build, through the media, a narrative that makeswar and armies appear something necessary. and unavoidable.End of peace and end of history are the two theories, axioms that do not needproof, to which politicians, commentators and scholars resort to to convince usthat the world goes a certain way and there are no realistic and viablealternatives. The end of peace seems to have fallen upon us with the war inUkraine. We, guilty and guilty, had basked in more than seventy years of peace, since the end of the Second World War, and we did not realize that others - Putinin this case - were equipping themselves to reduce us to slavery. The awakeningplunged us into anguish, but the governments have been able to react, even if forthe most accredited commentators they are still not doing enough, sending weaponsto Ukraine, increasing military spending and strengthening the armies. This isone of the most circulating readings, credited as an indisputable truth, whilejust a quick glance at what has happened since the end of World War II tells usexactly the opposite. That war has continued to be one of the privileged toolsthat States use to pursue their objectives of domination, on a large or smallscale, internally as well as in international relations. Eduardo Galeano in 1998wrote that in what was called the era of peace, from 1945 onwards, the war hadproduced twenty-two million deaths! The other theory in vogue, the end of history, which already has a few decadesbehind it, is perhaps more subtle and works in reverse. While peace -non-existent as we have seen - is smuggled for real, the end of history is a trueillusion. The end of history would be the idea that conflicts cease to exist -the end of the Cold War in this specific case - and humanity is able to live inpeace. Now, since history cannot be stopped, and thinking about it is anillusion, it follows that war or rather the possibility of war cannot becanceled, which is why armies and war apparatuses are needed. This is the harshreality to which we must submit. History then equal war, equal power, equaldomination. Who can oppose history, the passage of time? Nobody is soself-evident. But history thus turns into necessity, while it is possibility andopportunity.End of peace and end of history, like a fake puzzle game, are the vice in whichthey lock us in to justify states, war and power. Getting out of this mental andideological cage will be a first step to be able to make war an abomination, tobe ousted from history.ANGELO BARBERIhttps://www.sicilialibertaria.it/2022/09/07/guerra-mondiale/_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.ca
