When we propose to develop an organizational strategy within a union, we must
consider the need to have clarity and coherence between means and ends. We cannottake any idea for granted, much less expand on naturalized assumptions. Ademocratic union can have many forms and meanings, depending on the ideology fromwhich it is evaluated and interpreted. ---- One of the most common confusions isthat which is generated when combining the struggle for rights and the strugglefor power. From our perspective, this intentional overlap, which is presented assomething inseparable, generates an incompatibility of strategies that places usbefore a self-destructive immobilization. ---- Fighting for power is wanting tohave privileges, whether the intentions are good or bad, whether it is to reformthe state or make a revolution. Stop working for the military as a leader, spreadyour own political ideas through this possibility and not those of the group yourepresent, speak on behalf of your comrades without having to consult them, knowmore than them and hide information, perpetuate yourself in executive positionsto Expanding as a candidate outside the union organization, etc., is what we seedaily within the unions and is naturalized as their own. From living it so much,it becomes naturalized as inevitable, as something to use or tolerate in order tobetter fight against the bosses. According to this logic, the presence ofleaders, of professional trade unionists, of workers who take advantage of theprivileges that the position they hold gives them is necessary, due to thesupposedly necessary combination of the struggle for power and the struggle forthe rights of workers. .But this is not so. It is even better to fight when the fierce struggle for powerdoes not cross our organizational path. This race to have more privileges fromthe representation of co-workers hinders the organization, does not allow it todevelop, because it is always thinking about who is going to be the nextprivileged and who is going to benefit from the next action that we carry out. .The best example is election time, where we know that time is managed by theelectoral process and not by the needs of the workers' collective. And as anexample of organized workers' struggle without the hindrance of the struggle forpower we have the entire history of our FORA.The FORA and its anarchic communist ideology demonstrated that the workers'organization for the emancipation of the class develops better if the verticalstructures of privilege are excluded from the workers' nuclei, if equality,freedom and solidarity are taken as a guide.Power corrupts and obstructs the development of the struggle for our rights.Annoying, no use. With the internal struggles for the privileges imposed by thosewho agree to expand their power, the main objectives of the organization are leftaside, the bosses benefit and nothing changes.So what do we get out of all this?
