On October 27, 1889, Nestor Makhno was born, a fervent anarchist revolutionary,
promoter of the Peasant Revolution of 1918 in Ukraine. He is considered one ofthe most transcendent militants that anarchism has given. ---- A native ofGuliai-Polié and the son of extremely poor peasants, from a very young age hebegan to work as a laborer on the properties of the settlers then settled inUkraine. Already as a teenager he began to work in a local iron foundry, where hebegan to be introduced to anarchist ideas. ---- During the stormy years thatfollowed the Russian Revolution of 1905, he was sent to prison several times forbeing an anarchist, even being sentenced to hang on one occasion. It is here thatMakhno forges ties with anarchist militants of great stature, among them PiotrArshinov, and forms himself politically and ideologically, becoming a militantwith a powerful will and firm ideas about revolutionary politics.Liberated with the Revolution of 1917, he begins to apply these ideasimmediately. Back in Guliai-Polié he devoted himself fully to militant workalongside numerous anarchist cadres, quickly becoming head of the local sovietand bringing together delegates from peasant and trade union organizations. Inaddition, he promoted the constitution of the Committee for the Defense of theRevolution for the expropriation of land and properties of landowners andindustrialists. From the beginning of the Peasant Revolution in Ukraine, he participates in theformation of the Council of Insurgents -administrative form after the dissolutionof the State- and the Insurrectionary Army, where he will be a great protagonistas a strategist. At the head of the Black Army, he brought together thousands ofmilitiamen and obtained the support of millions of peasants, while liberatingnumerous localities where not only the self-determination of the people wasestablished, but also an advanced cooperative production and distribution systemwas established. The Makhnovist revolution was a true social and revolutionarymovement. With the betrayal and defeat at the hands of the Russian Bolsheviks -for whom theUkrainian Revolution also presented a danger-, Makhno went into exile, from wherehe began to write, together with other anarchist cadres, a balance of whathappened, systematized in the Platform of Dielo Truda organization. In it heurges the organization of anarchists in a solid political organization, with aprogrammatic base and with theoretical and action unity, capable of influencingthe social environment with a revolutionary strategy. He dies in exile in France, his health deteriorating. We remember him with one of his phrases"To the rude violence of our enemies, we will respond with the compact force ofour revolutionary insurrectionary army. We will respond to incoherence andarbitrariness by building our new life with justice, based on the responsibilityof each one, a true guarantee of freedom and social justice."https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=552018220259750&set=a.132988962162680_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.caSPREAD THE INFORMATION
