WASis and visit attempt a spontaneous roadblock (-; ---- Last week the secretary
of the International Working Men's Association (IAA) visited us unexpectedly andat short notice in Vienna. The IWA is our international federation, in which wehave 21 trade unions are organized worldwide. The secretariat of the 1stInternational is always held for three years by a national union and is currentlylocated in Spain (CNT). It was previously in Poland with the ZSP. Since thesecretariat also acts with imperative mandates from the affiliated unions, theelected secretaries are also completely normal unpaid officials.The current IAAsecretary is a worker like all of us and was sent by his company to Vienna for afew days on assembly work.During his stay in Vienna, a few of us were able to meet him and spend a niceevening together. The visit was really fine and on an equal footing and provedonce again that there can be no trade union bigwigs in anarcho-syndicalism.Face-to-face meetings like this make us feel a genuine commitment to workers inthe ILO worldwide. It's nice to maintain the formal contacts personally, torealize that we as workers basically have the same interests and fight similarstruggles everywhere. Therefore, a WAS member took part as a delegate two weeksago at the history conference of the ZSP in Lodz and was able to meet comradesfrom Serbia and Poland personally.
