We are republishing this inspiring press release published on the Squat.net site
for its very interesting subject. Councilor Mireille Jean can rejoice: the ownerswere not there during the day, it happened during the day, it was done incordiality (a nod to her macabre comments in support of the dismantling of thecamps of homeless people in downtown Chicoutimi). ---- Amsterdam: Housingjustice, now! Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 302 squatted ---- On Sunday October 23,unfurling a giant banner, the Mokum Kraakt squatter collective announced theopening of a house located at 302 of the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, squatted fourdays earlier. The squatters having taken up residence, the police cannotimmediately evict the premises. Here is their press release:The city is falling apart. The housing crisis is far from over. On top of that, energy crises and inflation are making everyday life unaffordable. At the sametime, real estate investors, landlords and speculators are pampered while masstourism and gentrification destroy living conditions. The inhabitants of Amsterdam succumb under the weight of capital. Mokum succumbsto the lack of space for young people, working people, the poor, refugees and theelderly. Mokum succumbs under the influence of the rich and the owners and underthe slow asphyxiation of the alternative culture. But Mokum is fighting. We no longer accept that our city is only for the rich, that the economic and commercial interests of property owners are unassailable, that we can no longer shape our own city, its culture, our way of life. And thatliving space is wasted by vacancy and neglect, when most Amsterdammers may soonbe unable to pay their flats, food or energy bills. And that is why we demand housing justice. The current crisis is a crisis for theprecarious. For property owners, it's a party. They dance to the rhythm ofsoaring real estate prices and the noise of the cash register for each luxuryapartment sold. Our too expensive lives are their livelihood. We can no longertolerate this. We need housing justice if we want an affordable life and city.We squat for housing justice. We are squatting in Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 302, ahouse belonging to the famous sleep merchant Peter Hagedoorn. For years, thisholiday king deliberately neglected this monument in order to speculate on itsvalue. While he owns it to devastate it, we squat it to fix it. We call thisnewly reclaimed free space Het Monument: a monument where anything is possiblewhen the people of this city take matters into their own hands. And from here wemake our requests. We demand justice in housing, a cap on rents for all housing, a drastic increasein social housing, the expropriation of large landlords, the abolition oftemporary rental contracts, the mandatory insulation of housing by landlords ,the end of segregation by gentrification, the prohibition of vacancy and neglect. And the legalization of the squat. We need housing justice. Not next year, but now. We call on all those sufferingfrom the housing crisis to join us in the fight!Mokum KraaktAmsterdam, Netherlandsmokumkraakt[at]riseup[dot]nethttps://squ.at/r/8g9hhttps://mokumkraakt.nl/by Collectif Emma Goldmanhttp://ucl-saguenay.blogspot.com/2022/10/pays-bas-la-justice-du-logement-passe.html_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.caSPREAD THE INFORMATION
