Twenty people took part in the boycott picket on Saturday August 27. Many
residents came to discuss, learn and support the three former employees. Theimpact of the boycott campaign launched in mid-summer is therefore beginning tobe felt in the neighborhood. ---- Some positive elements emerged from informaldiscussions with the former employer, even if this did not lead to any concreteprogress at the time. Again, he recognized the irregularities linked to the threebreaches of contract (2 economic dismissals and 1 conventional breach). Thenovelty is that it now seems to recognize outstanding payments. After havinginquired more seriously, he told us that he had indeed realized that it wasillegal to unilaterally reduce the working hours and the remunerations agreedwith his employees by contract and that the silence of the latter at the timefacts did not constitute tacit agreement. The employer nevertheless disagreeswith our calculation of the unpaid sums.The union therefore offered to open negotiations with a view to working on apossible draft agreement and, in particular, to agree on an initial meeting tocompare our respective calculations of outstanding payments. He unfortunatelyrefused, while informing us that he was in no hurry to regularize the situation.Recently, he finally resumed formal contact with the union by email, sending ushis own calculations. In this email, he also seems to accept an interview todiscuss the calculation of outstanding payments, continuing to refuse, for themoment, to start a negotiation of an agreement, even if he is now lesscategorical. For our part, we have already responded to the employer by offeringhim dates for an interview.In the absence of concrete progress and clarification on the employer's desire toregularize the situation, the union has decided to maintain its next boycottpicket, which will take place on Saturday October 1 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. infront of the store.
