For the autumn issue of the anarchist review Existence, we chose "anarchist
strategy" as the main topic. Earlier it seemed important to us to focus on thequestion of creating anarchist politics, attitudes towards specific problems andthe corresponding ways of working. However, with the beginning of Russia'sinvasion of Ukraine, this topic became even more urgent in a way. We arediscovering how misleading and unhealthy the uncritical use of hundred-year-oldideological teachings can be. On the contrary, we see it as strategic to focus onasking relevant questions that correspond to the given time and space. Alreadytheir formulation and the subsequent effort to answer them honestly helps usshape our own path, which we believe should be followed. But critically, knowingthat some questions need to be reformulated along the way, as well as someanswers to be reassessed. Anarchism is our compass. We therefore understandanarchism as a dynamic school of thought, not as a rigid and fixed ideology onceand for all.In the main topic of this issue, among other things, we return to the discussionfrom the turn of the millennium, which was sparked by the article "Cough upactivism", and therefore also to the questions of how we perceive ourselves, whatactivism means to us, what are its possible pitfalls, what can revolutionaryorganizations to do in non-revolutionary times. We then place great emphasis onthe analysis of individual problems, the social situation and the condition ofthe anarchist movement, so that we can choose our next steps based on it. To bemore specific, here is an update of an older text that arose out of an earlierdiscussion within the Anarchist Federation (AF) that deals with the segmentationof anarchist goals in order to begin the search for one's own anarchist politics. The text "Your politics is fucking boring" translated from the website CrimethIncspeaks about the fact that this policy should not be a manifestation ofself-sacrifice or a boring routine for ourselves. As an example of thinking aboutthe ways of anarchist political work elsewhere, specifically in the Russianenvironment, we publish the article "Strategies of activism and street actions"by the Finnish anarchist who has been active in Russia for many years, AnttiRautiainen. Strategic thinking is also approximated by an excerpt from PeterGelderloos's new book The Solutions Are Here: Tactics of the EcologicalRevolution from Below. It shows how a global stream of resistance movements overthe past decade has developed effective methods of responding to overlappingenvironmental and political crises and claimed many victories. With just a few texts, we return to the main theme of the previous issue ofExistence, which was entitled "Resisting the Invasion" and was dedicated to theanarchist reaction to the murderous occupation efforts of Z-fascism in Ukraine. At that time, we pointed to a historical dispute in the anarchist movementregarding the approach to the First World War. In his text "Malatesta on War andNational Self-Determination", a translation of which appears in this issue, WaynePrice shows another possibility of reading the anarchist thinker Malatesta inrelation to the war in Ukraine. The already mentioned Antti Rautiainen deals withthe reasons why some anarchists refuse to support resistance to the Russianinvasion in the text "Misconceptions about imperialism", where he also deals withanarchist historical traumas, which then lead to often false conclusions. TheABC-Belarus group argues why resistance to Putin is a revolutionary imperative, and the transcript of the AF lecture breaks down the false myths about the war inUkraine that are circulating on the left and many within the anarchist movementitself. One of the AF members then disputes the text of the Italian AnarchistFederation "For a new anarchist manifesto against the war", thereby following upon the AF's critical comments on the statement issued in March by theInternational Anarchist Federations, of which the AF is a member federation.Further in the issue, you will find a look back at the struggle that people lednine years ago for Istanbul's Gezi Park. We could not ignore this year's uprisingin Sri Lanka, which is viewed from an anti-authoritarian perspective by aninterview with an anarchist there. The memoirs of anarchist Laura Akai take us tothe United States of the 1970s and 1980s. And even further back in time, the lifestory of the French anarchist thinker E. Armand (1872-1962) and the obituary ofRicardo Flores Magón (1874-1922), who died 100 years ago, by William C. Owen. And as always, there are regular columns. The overview of some of the activitiesof the anti-authoritarian movement in the Czech Republic, with which our magazinetraditionally begins, is dominated by longer reports from the anarchist May Dayon Strelecký ostrov and from the ninth year of the Prague Anarchist BookFestival. The Anarchist Federation section informs about a new comic from ourpublishing house, about cheerful Prague barbecues and about the sad event thatwas the death of Václav Tomek. The review of texts from the last issues of thewall newspaper A3 deals with the themes of klerofascism, racism, inflation, thehypocrisy of NATO and the need to expropriate the oligarchs. And finally, as always, a review. The author of the book about LuisaLandová-Štychová (1885-1969) probably won't get the longest frame. We are alsodevoted to the titles Are the prisons overcome?, We also fall on your head, Womenwho did not want to be silent, We told you so, Anarchy here and now, Mutual aid,Chronicle of one hunger strike, Hell under the Spanish sky, Believing in beastsand Picola. And also a review of a video series about anti-fascist art.We wish you an inspiring read.https://www.afed.cz/text/7788/existence-c-2-2022-anarchisticka-strategie_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.caSPREAD THE INFORMATION
