On the Ukrainian side, there were allegations that Nuzhin did not pass some kind
of polygraph test. But even in a Russian court, a polygraph test is not direct
evidence. This is not the most reliable device, and often the results of the test
depend more on the professionalism of the inspector than on the sincerity of the
verifier. The assertion that the Ukrainians did not have Nuzhin's written refusal
to participate in the exchange is no less absurd, given that Nuzhin gave
anti-Putin interviews under the apparent control of the Ukrainian special services.

In this sense, Yevgeny Prigozhin won: now the prisoners he brought to Ukraine
will be less willing to surrender, and even die in a hopeless situation, taking
Ukrainian fighters to the next world. But the execution of Nuzhin is such an
obvious lawlessness that it will be reflected in events inside Russia and its
perception in the world for a long time to come.

There are many people who, in general, justified the aggression of the Russian
Federation against Ukraine, but they are not ready for public extrajudicial
executions. Sociology under the conditions of military censorship is a thankless
thing, but the Putin regime has clearly lost a lot of supporters over the past
two weeks. Including because so far not a single law enforcement agency has
initiated at least an investigation into the circumstances of Nuzhin's death.

Another consequence of the murder of Nuzhin: a number of human rights activists
were removed from Putin's council for human rights. Apparently, those who could
spin this story. The Putin Council for Human Rights is a body that decides
nothing, but there have always been some normal human rights activists there.
Being in this structure, they had the status of Putin's advisers, which helped in
good activities.

Among the new members of Putin's council is Komsomolskaya Pravda military
commander Alexander Kots, a close friend and longtime colleague of another
Komsomolskaya Pravda military correspondent, Dmitry Steshin, a former member of
the far-right Russian Obraz organization. Judging by the testimony of Nikita
Tikhonov, the murderers of Stas Markelov and Nastya Baburova, it was Steshin who
introduced him to arms dealers. According to rumors, a charred piece of the
corpse of one of the Chechen field commanders is kept as a souvenir at Steshin's
house.

In our podcast, we have already turned to the work of Sorokin, but even he did
not think of the plots that life is throwing up now. The largest supplier of
school meals in the Russian Federation (yes, this is one of Prigozhin's main
businesses) orders the murder of a person by breaking his head with a
sledgehammer. The execution is filmed, and the school food supplier flaunts what
happened.

The action with sending an allegedly bloody sledgehammer in a violin case to the
European Parliament is another blow to the possibility of restoring normal
interaction between Russia and the outside world. As proof of this, Russia has
been suspended from participation in the current World Cup. Whereas even the
closest geopolitical allies of Putin - North Korea and Iran - are not removed.

North Korea itself withdrew from the selection for the championship, citing fears
of the spread of covid, and Iran is participating. And the football team of Iran
at the World Cup has already staged a cool action against the Khomeini regime. We
are sure that many of those who have not yet become disillusioned with Putin are
not ready to live in such insane isolation.

Ukraine without light and heat
Against the backdrop of "negative growth" in the seizure of Ukrainian
territories, Putin switched to the tactics of regular shelling of heat and power
plants in Ukraine. From time to time, Russian missilemen manage to de-energize
almost the entire neighboring country. Ukrainian authorities say they don't yet
know how their country will survive the winter.

How to treat it? This is better than if Putin started detonating atomic bombs. Is
it vile to leave tens of millions of people without light and heat in the cold?
Of course, but wars are a mean thing. Ukrainian shelling regularly affects
civilians and infrastructure in the Belgorod, Kursk and Bryansk regions. So it's
just that Putin's missiles are more effective at the moment than Zelensky's.

Whether the Ukrainians will withstand this horror and whether they will be able
to continue to destroy the Russian army is not clear. There is also military
censorship in Ukraine, it is difficult to judge the real mood of people. The main
conclusion for us is that one cannot rely only on the courage and resilience of
the Ukrainian fighters. The elimination of the Putin regime is primarily the task
of the Russians themselves.

Real wives and mothers
The protests of the mobilized continue, and the Council of Mothers and Wives,
representing women whose relatives have been driven to the front, is becoming a
noticeable movement. The council members have already been openly monitored by
the cops, and in the official media they are accused of collaborating with
Western intelligence services.

Watch the video from their telegram channel , there are a lot of them. On the
commercials, obviously not CIA agents Jennifer Steid and Christina Weinley, these
are exactly the kind of women who can be seen in line at the checkout at any
Russian Pyaterochka.

How to deal with this protest? Now mobilized, their mothers and wives say: give
us normal equipment, provide adequate living conditions, don't use them as cannon
fodder... And we, dear Kremlin, will help you crush the Ukrainians in the
imperialist war. Sounds disgusting. And that's what they say and think.

But you can hear them in another way: we don't want to die in frozen dugouts,
knee-deep in water, because Defense Ministry officials stole money for equipment
many years ago. We don't want to die just because our officers are idiots, and
they throw unprepared people into frontal attacks on machine guns and under
artillery.

And now this can already be understood, and it is very dangerous for the regime.
Defending just their right to life, one hopes that the mobilized and their
relatives will gradually understand that the problem is not in the issued airsoft
helmet and rusty machine gun, but first of all in the fact that the Russian army
should not have invaded Ukraine at all.

It is possible that the revolution in Russia will look like a tactical union of
the most diverse social forces, and the attitude towards the war will at some
point recede into the background. This can already be seen in local environmental
protests in Moscow, when both people with the letter "Z" on their VKontakte
profile picture and people with the Ukrainian flag on their Facebook profile are
fighting against developers together.

On Friday, Putin had an epic meeting with the mothers of soldiers of the Armed
Forces of the Russian Federation, LPR and DPR. Apparently, these were real
mothers, but strictly selected: petty officials, functionaries of the "Combat
Brotherhood", the Public Chamber of the LPR, and so on.

The full recording of the meeting has not yet been published, but the Kremlin
press service has released several excerpts with Putin, which are quite crazy.
Putin said he called random fighters at the front, and they showed incredible
patriotism. I wonder if Putin himself believes that he was given just random
numbers? Or does he think that viewers will believe it?

Putin also issued the phrase: "fighters defending Kherson." If the ruler did not
make a reservation, then he really has not yet been informed which army controls
this city. And Putin also said that on a daily basis he controls the situation
with the provision of equipment to the mobilized. And this is interesting:
normally equipping 100-200 thousand fighters, it seems, is an easy task for a
state like the Russian Federation. In fact, it has been resolved for a month and
a half, and has not been resolved so far. Even despite the close attention of the
supreme ruler.

News of culture and repression
On Thursday, in Moscow, the cops violently broke up an evening of solidarity with
anarchists and anti-fascists arrested in the Tyumen case . People were kept in
the police department for no reason, some were beaten, and they demanded to
unblock their phones. Is it realistic now in Russia to hold at least evenings of
solidarity with political prisoners? Basically, it's real. But yes, it could be
