In Chambéry, in December 2017, the neo-Nazi group Edelweiss-Savoie announced its
dissolution in the Bastion social movement. In the process, an "associative bar"opened, the Edelweiss. A year later, under pressure from anti-fascist activists,the local closed. Since then fascist violence is still omnipresent in theSavoyard city. ---- This Saturday, October 15 was held in Chambéry the firstPride March. In the night that followed, the House of Associations was stainedwith homophobic tags. A week earlier, it was the premises of the PCF de Savoie inChambéry which suffered further damage, the fourth since the summer of 2019,based on anti-Semitic tags and the impact of gunfire. For several years, the farright has been omnipresent and active in Chambéry, multiplying intimidation,degradation and aggression. Chambéry was even one of the cities where a local wasbriefly established under the label " Social Bastion ".As a reminder, in 2017, the breathless Groupe union defense (Gud) relauncheditself in the form of the Social Bastion, like the Italian CasaPound. Theobjective: to open places (bars, sports clubs, etc.) to bring to life thenationalist-revolutionary trend within the far right. Launched by members of GudLyon, the Social Bastion opened a first pseudosquat, forbidden to immigrants, inan ephemeral way. After Strasbourg and the opening of the Arcadia bar, it is inChambéry that a third place opened in early 2018, the Edelweiss.About thirty activists and active activists then gravitate around this bar andactively participate in the "double duty" version faf. On the one hand, theseactivists are massively sticking up their nauseating posters and multiplying thedistribution of leaflets with their faces uncovered. On the other hand, theyorganize themselves into a fascist militia which multiplies outings againstmigrants or people designated as such and leftist, trade unionist or anti-fascistactivists. A strong anti-fascist mobilization is organized then, a demonstrationbrings together several hundred people in the streets of Chambéry in February2018. The local fafs, who camp ostensibly in front, is then protected by thepolice. Faced with the mobilization which does not weaken, the town hall itselfsubmits a wish for the closure of the premises, which it does not have theauthority to execute, in the municipal council, but is unable to act more inbefore. The right of ownership is sacred !An eye-popping victoryAfter a year, the adventure of the Social Bastion finally stops in Chambéry. Intheir self-dissolution statement, the activists promised that the "fight for theliberation of the French people[was]just beginning". The cessation of theactivities of the Social Bastion did not signify the end of FAF activism.Immediately, the EdelweiSS Pays de Savoie group was (re-)created (the doublecapital S is obviously not a typographical error on our part).While the closure of fascist locals, as well as the dissolution of these violentgroups, is a good thing in itself, it will never be enough to get rid of thefascist vermin. These administrative acts even have a perverse effect, theysuggest that we can rely on the State and the police to put an end to theseviolent groups. It is not so.
