Modern slavery is actually not much different from that of 20 or 100 years ago,
it is systemic, hedged with paragraphs, and at the same time quite not obvious. In times of democratic fog, the delusion of self-determination, media overwritingreality, this is a sad and disturbing phenomenon. The mainstream media is nowwriting hysterically about the planned next year's military training for 200,000Poles, and it's no surprise to us - we know that it has been working the same wayfor decades, over the last dozen or so years with a slightly lower intensity, probably for financial reasons that no longer matter. ---- Military coercion isnot synonymous with compulsory service in the army, it is not always a call tothe war front, it may have a different character, but it is always the same:forcing a citizen to perform specific actions against his will, subjectinghimself to rigorous inspection under the threat of punishment , donating yourtime or property for the defense of the state. It's not work, it's slavery andplunder. A dictionary definition suited to this situation could sound like this:"Slavery - a social phenomenon whose essence is a relationship of dependence, consisting in the fact that a certain group of people (slaves/conscripts) is theproperty of other people, groups of people or institutions (the state, its army), which can dispose of them freely."Currently (December 2022) there is still a lot of talk about Russians who lefttheir country by tens of thousands before being drafted into the army, which isalmost synonymous with being sent to the Ukrainian front. The service of thenewly mobilized on the battle line, according to some estimates, gives theaverage life of the so-called "mobików" up to 12 days of stay at the front. Thisis systemic, mass murder. And fleeing from being drafted into the Russian army isnow perhaps the most massive desertion since World War I.Almost nothing is said about repressions and threats against Ukrainian(potential) conscripts, and this is by no means a marginal phenomenon. There areprobably tens of thousands of people who deliberately did not return to Ukrainefrom abroad for fear of conscription into the army. Despite the establishment ofa provision prohibiting men of military age from leaving the country, manythousands of them also left - legally, through bribery, connections or illegallythrough the so-called "green border". It is not for us to judge or inquire whythey did it - they did it primarily because they do not want to be slaves. What is the situation in Poland? Not too cheerful, because compulsory militaryservice has never been abolished, only its substitute, civilian form wasintroduced in 1988 (longer than traditional service, so it is only another formof imprisonment), and universal conscription itself was suspended only in 2009until further notice . No other regulations imposing obligations and restrictionsand penalties for non-compliance have not changed:mandatory registration of pre-conscription workers, also for women studying infields consistent with the qualifications that the army is interested in - theobligation applies to women educated in the following fields: medical analysis, pharmacy, medicine, medicine and dentistry, nursing, psychology, medical rescue, veterinary medicine, pharmaceutical technician, veterinary technician, rehabilitation, radiology, laboratory diagnostics, IT specialist, ICT specialist, navigator, translator. Women who have registered for military qualification arealready subject to military service under general rules. ("A candidate whoreceives a summons but fails to appear at the military commission and fails toprovide a reason may be fined or restricted from liberty")Keeping military records for all registered - your data will never disappear frommilitary databases as long as you can be used for military purposes ("Publicadministration bodies are obliged to provide personal data free of charge forprocessing in military records.")In the Act on the universal duty to defend the Republic of Poland (the lastchanges adopted in 2021 entered into force in April 2022) there are stillprovisions on compulsory military service, lasting 9 months, for persons under 35years of age, while alternative service is provided for 18 months.Obligatory training for people who have been summoned to participate in them - inthe event of failure to report, the staroste or the president of the city ordersthat the person appointed by the Police be forcibly brought to the indicatedmilitary unit, pursuant to the provisions on enforcement proceedings inadministration (Article 61). Whoever, being intended for training or exercises incivil defense, evades them, shall be subject to a fine, the penalty ofrestriction of liberty or imprisonment for up to one year. Whereas Art. 228,concerning the evasion of the duty of military service, provides for a penalty ofimprisonment of up to 2 years. At the end of the military training, the conscript is forced to take a militaryoath - "Refusal to take the military oath, in accordance with Art. 341 of thePenal Code, shall be punishable by military detention or imprisonment for up to 3years. From 2021, there has been a change in issuing military booklets - currently theyare issued only after taking the oath. But this document is still hedged withvarious prohibitions and obligations. The obligation to perform military service (active or in reserve), to the extentspecified in the Act, applies to Polish citizens from the day on which they turn18 until the end of the calendar year in which they turn 60, and those holdingthe rank of non-commissioned officer or officer - 63 years of age (these degreesare obtained by university graduates after training)Military service may also be performed by dogs and horses owned by the statetreasury, as well as contract dogsSoldiers (including reserves) are subject to a penalty of secrecy, also after theend of service in the armyThere are also provisions on personal and material benefits in peacetime, concerning not only citizens but also entrepreneurs: "Persons with Polishcitizenship who have reached the age of 16 and have not exceeded 60 years of agemay be required to perform personal benefits consisting in performing varioustypes of ad hoc work for the preparation of state defense or combating naturaldisasters, liquidation of their effects and crisis management. (...) Theobligation of personal services may also include the obligation to use simpletools, and in relation to persons performing services consisting in deliveringdocuments of appointment to military service and summons to perform services, hereinafter referred to as "couriers" - also owned means of transport. (...) Theobligation to provide personal benefits may be imposed in connection withmilitary exercises, as well as for the purpose of delivering and servicing itemsof benefits in kind."Aren't these the laws that brought slavery practices into the legal system?Explaining this by serving the homeland is the same as not so long ago it wascalled serving the party, the pope, the emperor or the queen (may her land beheavy). See what the journalists on duty write about the military oath: "It isthe commitment of soldiers to states and nations, it is the source of their moralstrength. Pursuant to the provisions of the Act, every soldier of the ArmedForces of the Republic of Poland takes the military oath. It's total gibberish!Despite huge expenditures on the development of volunteer uniformed formations(apart from professional military service), i.e. the National Reserve Forces andthe Territorial Defense Forces, the authorities do not intend to abolishcompulsory military service. At the same time, Russia is perfecting conscriptcontrol mechanisms to prevent such mass escapes as happened a few months ago. Itwill involve, for example, employers who are to report on their employees, andwill also expand other administrative control systems to make tracking of peoplewho may be drafted into the army more accurate.Whether or not we subjectively feel safer through compulsory military service isno excuse for slavery.https://federacja-anarchistyczna.pl/2022/12/13/nowoczesne-niewolnictwo-ma-sie-niestety-dobrze/_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.ca
