The International Workers' Association (MAP) is today the oldest federation that
unites anarcho-syndicalist unions. It was founded in 1922 and currently unitesorganizations from over twenty countries of the world, including Slovakia. On theoccasion of its centenary, we are organizing several activities this year. Theevents with international participation will be held in Bratislava on March 4 inthe premises of A4 (FB) and in Košice on April 1 in the Collosseum club (FB).---- PRESENTATIONS AND DISCUSSIONS ---- In both cases, we will present importantperiods in the history of MAP, but most of the space will belong to currenttopics and discussions about the challenges associated with the establishment ofunions and successful organizing. The following will talk about their experiencesin Bratislava: * Organize! (Ireland)Organize! operates in the north and south of Ireland as an anarcho-syndicalistpromotional group. Since 2022, it has the status of Friends of MAP. * Solidarity Federation (United Kingdom)The Solidarity Federation has several local groups in the UK. It fights againstthe non-payment of wages and deposits and organizes trainings on how to organizein the workplace. It has been a MAP section since 1979. * Wiener ArbeiterInnen-Syndikat (Austria)The Wiener ArbeiterInnen-Syndikat union is active in Vienna. He has had severalsuccessful disputes and more are ongoing. From 2021, it is a MAP section. * MAP Secretariat (member of the ZSP union from Poland)The MAP secretariat will be represented by a member of the Zwiazek SyndykalistówPolski union, which is active in workplace and housing struggles and opposes"trash contracts". He has been a MAP section since 2009. * Association Direct Action (Slovakia)Events for the 100th anniversary of MAP are organized by the association PriamaAkcia. Our main campaign "Problems at work?" supports solidarity and cooperationamong workers, for example in cases of unpaid wages. We have been in MAP since 2000.So far, the following are confirmed to Košice: * Solidarity Federation * MAP Secretariat * Direct actionEXHIBITION OF PHOTOGRAPHS ON THE HISTORY OF THE UNION DIRECT ACTIONThe program will also include an exhibition of photographs and period materialsrelated to the activities of the union in the years 2000-2022, supplemented bysummaries of individual periods in the organization's development.ACCOMPANYING PROGRAMAt the event, we will have materials on anarcho-syndicalist thought and practice,including the book "Fighting for Ourselves: Anarcho-syndicalism and the ClassStruggle," which is among the best materials on the subject. On the occasion ofMAP's anniversary, we prepared the second edition of the book in January 2023,while we were also directly involved in its production at the Druckraum printinghouse in Vienna.
