On February 21 we celebrate and commemorate the national day of peasant struggle.
On this date 52 years ago, there was a huge peasant and indigenous mobilization, which led to the occupation of more than 500 farms nationwide, demandingcomprehensive agrarian reform. The day of struggle and planting was promoted bythe National Association of Peasant Users (Anuc), increasingly autonomous fromgovernments and strengthened by its peasant mandate in which it established landwithout bosses and the promotion of collective land production. ---- February 21,which the peasant organizations themselves defined as a day to symbolize theirhistory of struggle, reflects the long and rich experience of the AgrarianPresidia of the 1920s, of the Agricultural Societies and Peasant Leagues of the1930s, of the national agrarian unions of the 1960s, of the Anuc in its diversityin 1970, of the unity and defense of life projects of the 1980s, of the coffeeand coca-growing marches of 1990, of the minga and the fight for rights humanrights of 2000, of the national agrarian strikes and the liberation of MotherEarth of 2010.If February 21, 1971 marked for the State the abandonment of the path of a timidand failed agrarian reform from above, for those below it meant the deepening ofan agrarian reform from below, the only one that in various regions managed tobreak the dominance landowner. The defense of the order of landowners andagrarian bourgeoisie, and the clash with the more autonomous peasant areas, partly justified the paramilitary project that since 1980 and especially between1995 and 2005, imposed by blood and fire a massive campaign of dispossession ofland and resources and a violent counter-agrarian reform, endorsed by differentstate institutions.Today the fight of February 21, for land, life and freedom continues in force. The Petro government wants to face a minimal agrarian reform, through a slow andgenerous purchase of land dispossessed by employer unions with a long criminalrecord, such as Fedegan, which for the moment is close to 9% of the land in thehands of large cattle ranches. It is essential to guarantee that this lukewarmproject is carried out and to deepen its course so that it is really up to thepeasant needs, while strengthening the peasant organization, its autonomy andforms of common work.Today as yesterday, the agrarian reform is from belowhttps://grupovialibre.org/2023/02/22/52-anos-del-21-de-febrero-de-1971-dia-nacional-de-la-lucha-campesina/_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.caSPREAD THE INFORMATION
