Millions of textile and garment workers—mostly women—cannot afford to live in decent housing, eat healthy food or go to the doctor. But we can do something to fix this. #GoodClothesFairPay, a European Citizens’ Initiative, is demanding living wages for workers in the fashion supply chain. The goal is to get 1 million European Union passport holders to sign the petition for living wage legislation by July 19. Add your name today. The Covid-19 pandemic created an even greater burden for workers. While many big fashion companies continue to make a profit, the people who make our clothes remain trapped in poverty. For too long, fashion brands have promised to do the right thing. They haven’t. The EU is the largest clothes and textiles importer in the world and the 1 million signatures from EU citizens will merit an official response from the European Commission. The campaign calls for legislation requiring brands and retailers selling products in the EU to conduct living wage due diligence in their supply chains.
