WORLD WORLDWIDE EUROPE GREECE SOUTH AMERICA MEXICO News Journal Update - (en) Greece, APO, land & freedom: Announcement of the ongoing attacks on Zapatista communities (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Chiapas is Mexico. Stop the war against Zapatista peoples and

communities. ---- Chiapas is Mexico, and in Chiapas many of the forms ofviolence that affect the whole of Mexico are concentrated in Chiapastoday. The war imposed on our country by the United States, and whichFelipe Calderón undertook to deepen, today touches the entire nationalterritory. The border has moved to the southeast and with it the war, awar that the current government has not stopped: 153[1]thousand 941intentional homicides, 42[2]thousand 935 people disappeared and missing,69[3]journalists and 94[4]people defending land and territory, indigenous peoples and the environment, murdered in the ongoing processof militarized and criminal recolonization of the current six-year term.Chiapas is Mexico, and like the whole country, it experiences times ofextortion, shootings, forced displacements, trafficking of women andimmigrants, drug trafficking, kidnappings, murders of people who defendthe territories, journalists, femicides...The facts are indisputable: in Chicomuselo, paramilitaries arepersecuting the population to stop opposing and approve the reopening ofa barite mine, causing forced displacement. In Comalapa, territorialdisputes between organized crime groups are also causing the forceddisplacement of thousands of people. Very close to Tuxtla Gutiérrez, atruck carrying illegal immigrants overturned, killing at least 56 peopleand injuring another 70. In Pantelhó, gunmen assassinate Simón Pedro, defender of indigenous peoples' rights and member of the Civil SocietyOrganization, Las Abejas de Acteal. In Santa Martha, in the municipalityof Chenalhó, gunmen attack families who are victims of forceddisplacement and kill seven tzotziles (indigenous people of the area, note of the mtf.). In San Cristóbal de las Casas, armed groups roam thecity, demonstrating their ability to mobilize and shoot... The countcould go on, as every day new events of violence occur in Chiapas.Organized crime groups, narco-paramilitaries and paramilitaries operatewith complete impunity throughout the territory of Chiapas. In response, the federal government is sending troops and the National Guard into anarea that has already had a heavy presence of military forces since1994. This remilitarization has not translated into a reduction inviolence and illegal operations, on the contrary, organized crime groupscrime syndicates have diversified their economic activities andintensified their attacks on people and communities. In this context, the paramilitary and quasi-paramilitary groups thathave been operating with total impunity in Chiapas for three decadeshave increased their warlike actions against the Zapatista peoples. TheRegional Organization of Coffee Growers of Ocosingo (OrganizaciónRegional de Cafeticultores de Ocosingo ORCAO), which has been operatingsince at least 2000 at the service of various governments, politicalparties and power groups in the region, has carried out between 2019 and2023, more than 100 attacks against Zapatista villages belonging tocaracol 10, Flowering the Rebel Seed, based in New Homeland, Council ofGood Governance New Dawn in Resistance and Rebellion for Life andHumanity (Caracol 10, Floreciento la Semilla Rebelde, con sede PatriaNueva, Junta de Buen Gobierno Nuevo Amanecer en Resistencia y Rbéldiapor la Vida y la Humanidad). The attacks, insults and provocations arecontinuous and have intensified since 2019. The Zapatista authorities, human rights organizations and at least three observation missions ,have documented and disclosed this in public reports and pressconferences. We are sharing as an appendix to this statement a detailedaccount of several of these attacks. From the national and international support environment of theZapatista Army of National Liberation and the National IndigenousCouncil, on June 8, 2023, in Mexico and in the world we carried out 72actions (36 national and 36 international) to give visibility to thesecomplaints and to demand to stop the war against the Zapatista peoplesand to stop the war in Chiapas. These solidarity actions continue totake place in various states and countries. The answers arrived a fewweeks later: from June 19 to 22, 2023, members of ORCAO carried out newcoordinated attacks on three Zapatista communities: Emiliano Zapata, SanIsidro and Moisés y Candhi, which are part of the Moisés y Gandhidistrict and located in official municipality of Ocosingo in Chiapas.Attacks range from the arson of properties to armed raids. These attackslasted, in this case, three days and recorded at least 800 shots ofvarious calibres, as well as the burning of plots of land near thehouses of Zapatista families. On June 23, in his morning interview from Chiapas, the head of theFederal Executive, accompanied by the Minister of the Interior, theMinister of National Defense and the local governor, downplayed theserious situation in the region and the well-documented attacks onZapatista communities. Moreover, he continued, disparaging theorganizations and individuals who defend the land and human rights andthe organizations that record and denounce these and other forms ofviolence. These responses, both from ORCAO and the president of Mexico, worry andfrighten us: ORCAO continues to increase its armed operations, while thepresident of Mexico covers, with his words, serious acts of violencethat clearly tend to they increase. Denying, minimizing and distortingthis proven reality turns into a cloak of impunity that protectsparamilitary groups.Even worse, the president of Mexico adopted the word of his predecessorswhen they pointed out that these conflicts were between local groups or"between communities", thereby avoiding all responsibility of the Stateand imitating Felipe Calderón and his offensiveness "they are killedbetween their".This panorama leads us as individuals, peoples and organizedcommunities, in Mexico and in other parts of the world, to redoubleefforts to stop the war against Zapatista communities and Chiapas. Todaywe confirm that the present government not only does not listen, but, moreover, continues to allow and support a strategy ofcounter-revolutionary and criminal warfare. For the above reasons, we invite you to:Denunciation of the war against the Zapatista peoples and in general inChiapas and highlighting the responsibility of the state and federalgovernment.Development of information campaigns and solidarity actions throughoutthe country and in other countries, to inform about this war against thepeoples and communities of the Zapatistas and the war in Chiapas. From this space of national coordination, we call for a World Day ofAction Stop the war against the Zapatista peoples. From the horrors ofwar to the resistance for life, on July 13, 14, 15 and 16, which aims toinform society about the state of the war against the Zapatista peoplesand in Chiapas. This day will include:a) Leaflets and dissemination of informationb) Information panelsc) Artistic eventsd) MobilizationsIn addition, between July 24 and 28 we will hold a national forum withthree axes, violence, justice and peace. Likewise, we share that we areable to carry out the work of observation and escort in Zapatista landswhen conditions permit. We call for the development of all possible solidarity towards theZapatista peoples, so as not to fall into indifference andindividualistic flight in the face of the attacks that the peoples andcommunities of this state experience every day. Chiapas is Mexico, andtoday Mexico and the world must look and act against war and for peace, with justice and dignity.Space of National Coordination Stop the war against the Zapatista peoples.[1]Federal government data.[2]Data from the National Register of the Missing and Untraceable.[3]Federal government data.[4]Memorial for murdered human rights defenders (Memorial del HRD). From the page of the Space of National Coordination Stop the waragainst the Zapatista peoples.https://landandfreedom.gr/el/agones/1319-sygkentrosi-diamartyrias-gia-ti-dolofonimeni-trans-prosfygissa-ana-ivankova_________________________________________A - I N F O S  N E W S  S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.ca
