Abstentionism is one of the elements that is really affecting Italian
politics, even more so if it punishes left-wing parties and that
half-aborted experiment of the 5 Star Movement. An abstention that was
certainly aware of the homogenization of political forces and motivated
by very simple observations: the devaluation of wages and pensions, the
precariousness of work and life, growing poverty, the blatant attitude
towards favoring the rich, the marked tendency towards militarism with
the increase in missions, military spending, interventionism in Ukraine
and elsewhere, the prevailing racism not only towards non-whites, but
towards all types of social minorities: the disabled, the elderly (less
and less a minority), homosexual couples, the world LGBTQIA+, etc.

The lie about Italians who voted on the right is useful to all
politicians. Therefore, if a right-wing wind blows from the institutions
(and when has it ever been otherwise?), there is certainly also a
counter-wind, but it would be wrong to define it as left-wing, given how
unrealistic the difference between the two terms linked to parliamentary
mystification has become . A bracing that starts from the bottom, made
up of thousands of people engaged in social activities without a double
purpose or a project of power; people who voluntarily and
disinterestedly give life to initiatives of support, mutual aid,
hospitality, resistance, enduring the victims of the capitalist meat
grinder.

A few weeks ago the friends of Salvini, Meloni and the late Berlusconi
perched on the Messina side of the Strait, defined the 5,000
demonstrators against the bridge as cavemen, trying to discriminate
between modernity (the bridge as a symbol of progress and its ravenous
supporters) and backwardness (the opponents) . Contesting the ideology
of development, the cavemen, in which we recognize ourselves, are
instead drawing an insurmountable line of demarcation between
destructive capital and the populations chosen as sacrificial victims of
its mad enterprises to ensure ever more profits.

To remain in Sicily, the NO MUOS movement, which arose quietly in 2008
and consolidated starting from 2012, represents for longevity and
resilience, the most important stimulus to militarist policies not only
Italian, but international and imperialist which are based on the
island. For years, it has placed the centrality of war as the strategic
axis on which the policies of capital unravel; for a long time this
position has been snubbed, underestimated, misled; today few would dare
to deny the centrality of war and militarism, even those who deal with
seemingly unrelated issues, such as trade unionism, feminism, education,
health. The movement's approach also with respect to the conflict in
Ukraine was to denounce Italy's role as a belligerent and Sicily's
involvement, and to identify in the fight against the presence of
NATO-American bases our way of fighting against the war (not to side
with Putin). The contribution of the NO MUOS movement has always been
characterized by a non-hegemonic will and by the need to build a broad
front against war, without supporting political projects of any kind.

The recent mobilizations in the internal areas of Sicily against the
range for military exercises of the Aosta Mechanized Brigade, which led
to a first important result with the refusal of the municipalities of
Sperlinga, Nicosia and Gangi to cede their territories to the army
(partial result, because the army can impose its decision if it does not
find the "voluntary" support of the municipalities), they show us how
under the apparent calm, sheltered from the presumed right-wing wind,
the flame of revolt and dignity always lurks.  A flame which, in other
respects, burns in several territories, from the Nebrodi to the
contaminated and damaged places of the industrial poles, and which
animates only apparently local mobilizations, for public water, for a
more efficient and widespread health system in the area, against the
differentiated autonomy, yet another colonial blow against Sicily and
the South. Struggles which, moreover, take place in many Italian
localities, albeit with the spotlight off by the regime's media.

And if we look at Sardinia, and its struggles against the endless
military servitude, against the NATO bases, the impacting radars, the
armaments factories; either we turn our gaze to Tuscany, with the No
Base movement, its campsites, its assemblies and mobilizations, or to
Friuli, with the return of the demonstrations in Aviano and the reports
of military servitude on the border, we realize the great potential that
stirs in real society. And that has continued to agitate for decades, as
in Val Susa, where, beyond the words of the government, the TAV is
bogged down. The recent demonstration in Maurienne, with the charges of
the French police and the ban on Italian buses from crossing the border,
seems to us the clearest indication of how much resistance to capital
and its mad projects can be stronger than repression (dozens of comrades
NO TAV in prison or subjected to restrictive measures of their freedom)
and paid journalistic mystification.

In the veins of the communities, from Val Susa to Sicily, runs a
yearning for rebellion, sometimes instinctive, others reasoned and
conscious, others still latent, capable of blocking the projects of the
powerful.

The actions of the most radical environmentalist world slam the
irreparable drift of the earth and of all its living beings into which
the voracity of capital drags us in the face of governments and drugged
public opinion. Branded as criminals, activists are isolated and
denounced to reduce to silence a practice that tends to become widespread.

Even in Romagna they tried to cancel the thousands of girls and boys
(and not only) who came to help after the flood, even before the state
apparatuses moved; the solidarity that a system that speaks of merit and
inculcates consumerist individualism would like to cancel or delegate to
the Church emerges as a form of bottom-up reappropriation of
relationships and self-determination of lives. Transfeminism, prides,
especially those tired of being controlled by the institutions, sectors
of the world of work that do not give up on defeat, are the most alive
that society can express today, the counter wind that will end up
removing the stench of death from candies. Provided you know how to
