In accordance with our statutes, we publish here the text drafted by the Heritage

Commission of the Libertarian Communist Union and adopted in May 2021 during aFederal Coordination. Still relevant, these words call for support for therevolutionary process taking place in Rojava. ---- By Kurdish revolutionary left,we mean all the political structures, fighters, trade unions and associationsgrouped together in the Union of Democratic Communities of Kurdistan (KCK),established in Turkey, Iraq, Iran and in Syria, and of which the PKK (in Turkey)and the PYD (in Syria) are the two reference parties.Since July 2012, in the context of the Syrian revolution and civil war, arevolutionary process led by the Kurdish left has been underway in WesternKurdistan. It has spread to the entire region of northern and eastern Syria(commonly known as Rojava), but finds an echo in Iraq and Iran.An unprecedented analysis, a historic experienceThis process is carried by an original revolutionary project, driven by the PKK,and called "democratic confederalism". Synthesis of several revolutionarycurrents, among other Marxists and anarchists, of an analysis specific to theMiddle East, and of the history of Kurdish anti-colonial and autonomiststruggles, this consists of placing the peaceful coexistence of peoples at theheart of the process through direct democracy, and claims their politicalautonomy vis-à-vis any state institution. At the same time, it brings socialecology and feminism to the fore, questioning the role of the state as a tool ofdomination, questioning the legitimacy of its existence."Removal of the PKK from the list of terrorist organizations". Paris, October 18,2015.Cuervo (UCL Marseille)By directly implementing the principles of democratic confederalism in Rojava, despite a permanent war, first against the Islamic State (IS), then against theTurkish state and its Islamist mercenaries, the Kurdish organizations prove inpractice that a self-management alternative is possible. Today, the Kurdishrevolutionary left is one of the rare political forces to propose, in the MiddleEast, a project for a self-managing, ecological, anti-patriarchal and, in a way, secular society. Not only does it defend this social project, but it has, to a certain extent, themeans of its policy: it has solid support within the Kurdish population, which isexpanding to other communities, particularly in Turkey. and in Syria, and to someof the far-left Turkish and international organizations. The Kurdishrevolutionary left has been able to build effective political organizationsendowed with the capacity for self-defense in the face of aggression. Finally, the revolutionary experience in Rojava is coupled with aninternationalist dimension: from 2012, and even more so with the second battle ofKobanê in 2014, Kurdish organizations have launched calls to come and build anddefend the revolutionary dynamic threatened by the attacks jihadists, then by theTurkish army and its auxiliaries. Many organizations around the world haveprovided direct or indirect support to the ongoing process. The defense of the revolution is constantly put to the test. Confronted, since2011, with a civil war with international dimensions on Syrian territory, Kurdishorganizations are caught up in issues that go beyond the sole question of theirautonomy. Essential bulwark against the Islamic State, then gravediggers of thecaliphate, they benefited from the interested support of Russian, French andAmerican imperialisms in competition in the region. A paradox, of limitedduration, as it presents itself in certain historical circumstances. This struggle, which took place at the cost of thousands of deaths, associatedthe Kurdish YPG-YPJ militias with Arab brigades within the Syrian DemocraticForces (SDF). But the support from Moscow and Washington was ad hoc, and it endedshortly after the SDF defeated Daesh. The Turkish army and its Islamistauxiliaries attacked the canton of Afrin in January 2018 with the approval ofMoscow, then part of the Cîzîrê in October 2019 with the approval of Washington. The democratic confederalism established in northeastern Syria, however, withstood this test, demonstrating its resilience and viability as a politicalsystem.Pro-Kurdish demonstration of October 18, 2015, in Paris, following the Ankaraattack of October 10, and the violence of the Erdogan regimeCuervo (UCL Marseille)Strong but attentive supportFaithful to its anti-colonialist and internationalist positions, the UCLreaffirms that the revolutionary process led by the Kurdish left calls for strongsupport from libertarian communists.Strong, because in the midst of multiple enemies, it embodies real hope becauseof its internationalist character, its multicultural, autonomist and non-statewill, its popular nature, and its concrete achievements, despite a permanent war, particularly in the antipatriarchal and democratic action, and ecologist. This support, however, must remain critical. A comprehensive but sincerecriticism, lucid on the two dangers that threaten the self-management alternativein Kurdistan:an imperialist danger: the multiple maneuvers of the Syrian civil war since 2012,coupled with the interventions of regional and international powers threaten thepolitical independence of the Kurdish left. The interested neutrality of Damascusfrom 2012, then, in the fall of 2019, the redeployment of pro-Bashar forces andthe Russian occupation army as a shield against the Turkish threat, could lead tocompromise with the puppet regime of Damascus, that is to say to the corruption, the distortion, even the pure and simple disappearance of the revolutionary process.a democratic danger: officially, the Kurdish left, under the impulse of thetheories of Öcalan, broke with the concept of the nation-state and with theauthoritarian tradition of Marxism-Leninism. But, even if democraticconfederalism enjoys the support of a large part of the civilian population, thequestion of the pre-eminence of the military leadership over the civil movement, just like that of the party over popular power, remains. This issue, particularlyin the context of war, needs to be closely monitored.Taking into account all these parameters, and like the organizations thatpreceded it, the Libertarian Communist Union must defend the revolution inKurdistan by all means at its disposal. In particular, shepublicly provides critical support for the Kurdish revolutionary left;acts to support, study and publicize the political revolution inRojava/Self-administration of northeastern Syria;calls for the removal of the PKK and other armed political branches of therevolution from the list of terrorist organizations;demands the truth and an end to state secrecy on the assassination in Paris, onJanuary 9, 2013, of Fidan Dogan, Sakîne Cansiz and Leyla Saylemez;calls for the release of Abdullah Öcalan and all prisoners of the Kurdish leftand its supporters.Imperialist interventions and capitalist domination can only be stopped by thecoordinated internationalist action of the oppressed classes. As anarchists, wemust do everything in our power to strengthen the international anti-capitalist,anti-patriarchal, anti-state and anti-imperialist revolutionary movement. For this, in addition to its global and continuous action, the LibertarianCommunist Union acts within the Kurdistan National Solidarity Coordination, andwith the entire international Anarkismo network. Here too, the organization willcontinue the work carried out and the deepening of the links forged, inparticular with the representative body of the Kurdish left in France, theKurdish Democratic Council in France (CDKF).Libertarian Communist Union, May 2021https://www.unioncommunistelibertaire.org/?Commission-Heritage-L-UCL-et-le-soutien-a-la-gauche-kurde_________________________________________A - I N F O S  N E W S  S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.ca
