On June 28, 1969, an angry community of gay, lesbian, bisexual and trans people
on New York's Christopher Street resolutely stood up to anti-queer policeharassment. The "Stonewall Riots" were largely carried out by trans people ofcolor and sex workers who fought against structural multiple discrimination andmarked the origin of the organized LGBTIAQ movement. ---- But even 54 years afterStonewall, the oppression of queer people worldwide continues - and it isintensifying. With the rapidly growing wave of anti-queer agitation reaching intothe bourgeois camp; with the enactment of new laws that actively oppose theself-determination of queer people; and with escalating anti-queer violence inthe streets.The fight against this oppression and for queer liberation is more necessary thanever. But in capitalism there will be no such liberation. Neither smiling policeofficers at the CSD nor recolored corporate logos can hide this.
