(also known as pink capitalism, homocapitalism or gay capitalism) is aterm used to describe the phenomenon where private companies ostensiblysupport queer people, but due to the logic of capitalism, they do soonly for the purpose profit. Of course, they only do this if queerpeople in a given country have at least some support from society, whichmakes them considerable purchasing power, this is called pink money.Rainbow capitalism has its beginnings in gay bars, but has graduallycome to include all kinds of services and products. This form of"representation" reduces queerness to a few symbols and ignores ourdiversity, promotes assimilation into a cisheteronormative society thatactively harms us and hinders our freedom, reduces the revolutionarypotential of events like Pride because companies do not want to promotesomething they do not accept for the sake of their image majority company.It's just another, but slightly more hidden, way to hide us and put usin boxes, to make us only consumers and not free people. It convincescisheterosexual people that they can support us by simply buying aproduct, instead of, for example, marching for our rights or donating toqueer charities and organizations. It is essentially a pious fetishism,queer identities become merely a product, they are simplified to justthe colors of the rainbow or a few symbols, all humanity and variety isremoved and a commodity is created, a commodity that can be consumed bymainstream society. Rainbow capitalism redirects attention and capitalto companies and politicians instead of queer people and queerorganizations, erasing the history of the queer freedom struggle as aradical movement in favor of a marketable and simple image of queerness.It erases the history that one of the conditions of the transition fromfeudal society to capitalist society was the oppression of women and thequeerness of people.
