inter-union ranging from combative unions (CGT, Solidaires) to

fringes, the inevitable betrayal was prophesied. A 2nd date is set the

good, this time they will betray. For March 7 and 8, CGT and Solidaires
are calling to put the renewable strike on the agenda of the GAs. Except
that the GAs remain thin and, as a result, the strikes do not take root,
and decline quickly. After 49-3, the tension rises, police violence
increases. The intersyndicale, however, is not calling for a riot.
Result : " Betrayal ! They are against the movement ! The problem is
that this prefabricated rhetoric is not valid in all circumstances.
Contrary to what happened during the social movement of the summer of
1953 (see page 22), the " union leaderships " had nothing to " betray "
this year. Unfortunately, the proletariat has hardly shown itself to be
more radical than them. Otherwise he would have come to a general
assembly to express it; the strikes would have burst into fireworks;
they would have gone beyond the intersyndicale; the CFDT, Unsa or other
bureaucracies would then no doubt have panicked, slowed down, betrayed,
and it would have been necessary to denounce it... But here it is: all
this did not happen. To say that the " union leaderships " are
systematically to the right of their base is to misunderstand the state
of our class. In fact, when we keep saying that " the union leaders are
betraying ", even when they do not, we dissuade people from acting. As
the Revolutionary Syndicate Committees write, " using the bureaucratic
scapegoat schema has led us for decades into a political impasse marked
by a withdrawal into oneself of paranoid individuals who feel constantly
betrayed ". By force, we shoot ourselves in the foot. It seems that
there is an epidemic, in militant circles, which consists in calling for
a general strike every morning, in calling for " organizing at the base
" every evening, but which does not lead to a hard work to bring his
work colleagues to AG. It is easier and faster to hold, outside the
workplace, so-called " interpro " GAs between believers. If we want to
avoid being in a top-down pattern, waiting for the watchword of " union
leaderships ", we still have to organize ourselves to do without them.
So let's live a unionism of struggle, living, grassroots. It is this -
and not the national intersyndicale - which will allow renewable strikes
and massive and sovereign general assemblies, without which no
self-organization of workers, a prelude to self-management, is possible.
