Waves of arrests, four-day police custody, prison sentences... the
repression against ecologists has been getting tougher for severalweeks. New steps are taken in the safe drift. ---- Symbol of the newrepression that is falling on environmental activists, two people werebrought for immediate appearance on June 23 for their participation inthe demonstration against the Sainte-Soline mega-basin on March 25, andwere both were incarcerated. One, prosecuted for throwing stones at the gendarmes, received tenmonths in prison. The other, prosecuted for an ACAB tag and theconcealment of a gendarmerie vest stolen from one of the vehicles burnedduring the demonstration, requested a delay for his defense. But thejudge deemed it useful to keep him in pre-trial detention pending histrial on July 27. There is a "risk of recidivism", it seems. Recurrenceof making an ACAB tag? We are shaking...A confinement which is only the tip of the repressive iceberg. In June, two waves of arrests affected environmental circles. In all, aroundthirty people were arrested on June 5 and 20, in particular as part ofthe investigation into a disarmament action against a Lafarge factory inBouc-Bel-Air in December 2022.Environmental activists "sabotage" the Lafarge factory in Bouc-Bel-Air.Photo DRArrested for an ACAB tag!A sign of the times making environmentalists enemies of the state, theinvestigation is being carried out by the anti-terroristsub-directorate. This is how the arrested activists saw hooded andover-armed men, sometimes from the RAID, breaking down their doors atsix in the morning and pointing them with assault rifles before boardingthem up to the fourth sous ground of the DGSI and lock them there tointerrogate them for four days. After the accusation of eco-terrorism launched by Darmanin, it is indeedthe means of anti-terrorism that are now used by the State againstenvironmental activists.Under these conditions, it does not matter that the procedure ends updeflating on its own on the judicial level, like that for "criminalassociation" against the anti-nuclear activists of Bure, who obtained analmost general release on appeal in January. Because the procedure is initself a punishment: traumatic arrests, exhaustion of militant forces inlong and costly procedures, judicial controls preventing people fromseeing each other and destructuring collectives...But it could be that in taking on the Earth Uprisings, the state has notchosen the best enemy. Since the first threat of dissolution, onehundred and eighty local committees have been created, and supportrallies are multiplying. While the ecological catastrophe is more and more visible, that thecriminal action of the government is more and more glaring, theactivists of political ecology are less and less inclined to besatisfied with activism living room (or gardening).
