FAU was an important player at the Chemnitz theory festival Kantine
Sabot ---- It rarely happens that at the end of a theory festival, aspeaker calls on those present to join FAU. With that, an editor of thetheoretical newspaper Tsveyfl ended his speech, which can be summarizedwith the title "Anarchism is dead, long live anarcho-syndicalism". Itwas held on the last day of the left theory festival Kantine Sabot inChemnitz. In that year it stood under the heading "History and Theory ofAnarchism". From July 31st to August 6th, lectures, workshops, paneldiscussions and films related to the themes of anarchism andanarcho-syndicalism were offered.Many historical topics were offered. The social scientist EvgenliKazakov dealt with the relationship between anarchism and Bolshevism inthe October Revolution and showed that it was not just about enemysisters. There were also a lot of similarities back then. Samuel Denneralso made this clear in his presentation on the October Revolution.Denner argued that the Bolsheviks, as a radical opposition party, had abase among sections of the workers in large Russian factories and thatat that time they were far from having the monolithic party structurethat later became the hallmark of their rule. Several Left EducationWeek events also addressed anarcho-syndicalism in many parts of theworld. Lucien van der Walt dealt with revolutionary syndicalism inAfrica, Reiner Tosstorff with Spanish anarcho-syndicalism, and VeraBianchi discussed anarcho-feminism using the example of Mujeres Libres.MIX OF FESTIVAL AND THEORYIf the themes across continental anarchism and anarcho-syndicalism seema little random, you're not wrong. The theory festival came into beingin 2018 because some young academics thought that in the Marx year oneshould deal theoretically with the author of Capital in a city that,after all, has borne his name for a few decades. This was quickly gotrid of after reunification. But on the Marx year, the Chemnitz cityadministration wanted to benefit and created the Marx beer. After all,the Marx head in the city center has now become an attraction fortourists. The young intellectuals then contributed the Marx canteen, amix of festival and theory.At first, none of the organizers thought that an annual left-wing eventshould be created here. "But the response was great and it was fun,"said one of the organizers. And so the canteen Luxemburg, Gramsci,Benjamin followed the canteen Marx. And the early bourgeois philosopherChristine de Pizan, known only to insiders, gave her name to aneducation week in Chemnitz. This year, for the first time, the educationweek did not deal with individual theorists, but with a system ofthought that not only the Tsveyfl editor mentioned above propagated as amodel for the future.Under the title "The revolution is an everyday matter - syndicalisttrade union practice in non-revolutionary times", FAU member SteffiAlbicker dealt with over 100 years of anarcho-syndicalist and tradeunion practice in Germany. With reference to a scientific research paperby Jule Ehms, Albicker emphasized the pragmatic practice of the FAUD,which was based on the needs and interests of the employees, which wasnot achieved by the large trade unions. FAU can build on that today.Albicker sees a slight upswing in syndicalist trade union practice, forexample in the labor disputes of the delivery services.
