This was the case this summer: General Roberto Vannacci's book, entitled
"The world upside down", has created and continues to be talked about. As the newspaper Domani writes, "it had never happened that aself-published book distributed only by Amazon was first in therankings". In just over two weeks the booklet sold 100 thousand copies, driven by very generous media attention, very notable figures forItalian publishing. ---- The press, oh yes, has realized that thegenerals are fascists, and there has been an incessant rain of comments, analyses, interviews. The parties, alas, have realized that the generalsare fascists, and have already extended their tentacles towardsVannacci: Forza Nuova and Gianni Alemanno's little party were the firstto try, offers kindly declined by the general's ambition, are tryingwith the League has more conviction and intends to nominate him for thenext European elections, an attempt that will probably succeed. There is already a page dedicated to Vannacci on Wikipedia. In which welearn that "he is a division general, not automatically encyclopedic. His notoriety was created thanks to a single publication and the(temporary) attention of the media". The next note is even moreexplanatory: the entry was written on commission from the biographerhimself. In short: Vannacci probably hoped for this echo and decided toride it, given that he doesn't lack ego. Not bad for a former commanderof the Folgore, head of the Military Geographic Institute until thepublication of the volume. Incidentally, no one has pointed out that thebody that should provide geographical and topographic maps (maps, butnot only) according to those who study this area has not updated themfor years. But what does the book say? An admission: I was among those whopurchased it, one of my fetishes is publications by the military, especially when, as in the case of Vannacci, they try to embellish theunsustainability of their ideas and then are surprised when they arerightly pointed out as fascist. Vannacci's would like to be a pamphletbut the central thesis is the most banal and boring return to normality, whatever it may be, because my lady, the world is turning the oppositeof how it should be.The volume is just a tad more detailed than bar discussions: the generaladdresses various topics - energy, the homeland, multiculturalism, cities, taxes - and does so by quoting an article here and there, whenit goes well, and more often referring to their own experience in thefield. Taking it for granted that the world of military missions, i.e.colonial, warlike and abusive, is useful for understanding any type ofsociety. If the first chapter is dedicated to "common sense", why arethe general's homophobic and racist theses always presented as such, therest of the pages are a continuous exaltation of tradition and theestablished order, always with an attitude that would like to bedismissed and which for this very reason supports the worst atrocities. An example above all: in the chapter dedicated to security, hypothesizing the arrival of a thief in the house (a well-knownobsession of a country of owners like Italy), the general asks himself"why I shouldn't be authorized to shoot him, to stab him with any objectpasses into my hands or to catapult him down the stairs or the window heis trying to enter and render him forever harmless?"; in practice he isasking for a license to kill even in the civilian sphere, as he isalready granted in the military sphere. The book lashes out against the "small and meager minorities" (we informthe general that the army to which he boasts of belonging is also one)who, according to him, "override common sentiment". It is interesting tonote how the general, and we imagine those who share his theses, feelbesieged by these alleged minorities. It is not enough for him to be thenoisy (rather than "silent", as the general says with the most worn outof formulas) and historically established majority of this wretchedcountry, it is not enough for him to govern Italy, Vannacci and hisacolytes want domination, they want continue to spit on their victims(poor, migrants, gays, environmentalists), they do not acceptsolidarity, awareness, integration, conflicts. They want a peaceful, silent Italy, where their common sense - that is, abuse erected into asystem - becomes dictatorship, in that unhealthy idea of democracy whereeveryone can speak but then what the powers that be decides are done. However, Vannacci's book has merit: it has revealed what we anarchistshave been supporting for a long time. Food for thought which, however, was lost in the general debate, which as usual was more interested inmaking noise about Vannacci's bullshit. After the controversy, the army general staff removed him from office, while Defense Minister Guido Crosetto announced a disciplinaryinvestigation: the usual pantomime to show that something is being done, and yet another assist to the ego of Vannacci, who will once again beable to pass himself off as a victim, the favorite sport on the right. What to expect from someone who has sung Folgore's most famousanti-communist anthem, Hand grenades and caresses with the dagger? Whatto expect from those who are forged in those total institutions that arethe barracks, where machismo reigns and where one is educated inviolence and oppression? What do you expect from those who are bred bythe state to give and follow orders, so as to maintain privilege andoppression, from those who go around the world to kill and plunder?Exactly 60 years ago the film "We Want the Colonels" was released, oneof the most underrated works by Mario Monicelli, a ferocious satire thatimagined a clumsy coup by the military and the right, a clear referenceto the attempt by the commander of the X Mas Junio Valerio Borghese . Inone of the most famous scenes of the film, some senior officers, whoquietly call each other comrades, meet to develop the ORPO plan, whichstands for order and power, which is then transformed into the moreprosaic FAVA, family and values. Among the points cited are thereinstatement of the death penalty, the reopening of casinos with thestate license, slogans for students such as "speak only when you areinterrogated", the extension of military detention. For people likeVannacci, the right in government and those who aspire to a small placein the future divisions of power, that film is not a joke but a dream. Aworld on the contrary, theirs.A.T.https://www.sicilialibertaria.it/_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.ca
