Lubiana semper nel cuore. ---- AKC Metelkovamesto playground, Friday, September 8, 2023 at 7 p.m. ---- As part ofthe events marking the 30th anniversary of the occupation of today's AKCMetelkova mesto[A]infoshop invites you to a conversation aboutantimilitarism yesterday and today, at home and around the world . ----Thirty years have passed since the occupation of the premises of theformer barracks on Metelkova. Back in September 1993, it was not only amatter of protecting empty buildings from the destructive arbitrarinessof the city authorities, nor was it only a matter of solving the spaceshortage for a multitude of cultural, artistic and social activities. Itwas also about the rejection of war, militarism and nationalism, whichat that time had already shown their destructive face on the bloodybattlefields of the destroyed Yugoslavia. Occupied Metelkova eventuallydeveloped into the Autonomous Cultural Center Metelkova mesto, a uniquespatial and social experiment, the importance of which long ago outgrewthe city or state framework and is today well established andindispensable - to the pride of too many at home and around the world.Today we live in a period of increasing normalization of war and otherorganized state violence in everyday life. The war against people onlyin and around Europe is currently taking place in many places, both inthe Mediterranean and in Ukraine, both on the Balkan migrant route andon the edges of European metropolises. It is becoming more and moreobvious that the ruling capitalist regime cannot offer the peopleanything more than ever new crisis, state of emergency and - in manyplaces - outright war. This increasingly applies to Slovenia as well.Ever since its entry into the NATO military alliance, it has beenactively involved in its wars around the world, recently also in the warin Ukraine. Huge amounts of public money are channeled into the purchaseof weapons, regardless of the political color of the government that iscurrently in power. It is an active part of the deadly war against thepeople who seek their future without war through the Balkans. During theCOVID-19 epidemic, the experience of being a target of organized terrorwas also experienced by those parts of society that are usually sparedfrom it. At the same time, the idea that violence, exclusion, the army, investments in weapons and war are an objective necessity, and not achoice imposed on society by an interested minority along with the ideasof nationalism, patriotism and patriarchy, is increasingly growing insociety and in interpersonal relations. The anniversary of the occupation of the barracks on Metelkova is a goodopportunity to make an arc from the anti-militarism struggles during thedestruction or disintegration of the former Yugoslavia, of which theoccupation itself was an expression, to what anti-militarism practicallyand theoretically means today, both locally and more broadly. For anintroductory consideration of the anti-militarism aspect of theoccupation of the barracks on Metelkova, we asked a comrade who was anactive participant in the occupation in 1993 for a contribution on whatthe anti-militarism of a comrade from the Anarchist Initiative Ljubljanameans, and from the anarchist group Germinal from Trieste we hope for acontribution on their action against militarism. An open discussion willfollow.Welcome!/in case of bad weather, the discussion will be held in A-Infoshop/https://germinalts.noblogs.org/post/2023/09/06/incontro-a-lubiana-sullantimilitarismo/_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.ca
