experiencing. Three workers die in the explosion of the artillery
grenade they were working on in Casalbordino, at the Sabino Explodenti
company, in the province of Chieti. A 5-year-old girl dies in the flames
caused by the crash of a Frecce Tircolori plane. She was traveling by
car with her family, traveling along a road outside the Turin Caselle
Airport where the plane crashed. Her twelve-year-old brother is
seriously injured, and her parents are also burned, albeit to a lesser
extent.

Many remembered how in the Sabino Explodenti production plant, three
other workers had already died in an explosion in 2020, a massacre which
occurred in circumstances not too different from that of last September
13th. The Casalbordino plant is a Major Accident Risk facility according
to the Seveso legislation, which deals with "demilitarisation, recovery,
transport, disposal and destruction of explosives, consultancy for the
reclamation of land from war ordnance". Trade union organizations and
political representatives have denounced how, despite the reports
following the 2020 massacre, after which it was closed, and for which a
trial is still underway against company representatives, the plant was
reopened already in 2021 with simplified procedures, so much so that the
Abruzzo Region has not placed it under the EIA procedure. To date, no
External Emergency Plan has yet been published as would be required by law.

If every company normally makes profits by sacrificing the safety of
workers, the health of the inhabitants and the protection of the
territory, in this case it must be considered that Sabino Explodenti is
a key partner of the Ministry of Defense for the processing of military
ammunition. According to the company's own statements, the explosion
occurred during the ammunition work on an artillery grenade, as part of
a contract for the Defense Industries Agency (AID), an "in house"
company of the Ministry of Defense . Simplified procedures, negligence,
lack of safety. What can be done about it? After all, strategic
activities, especially in the military sector, must continue to work no
matter what the cost, especially in times when there is a great need to
renew arsenals. In the AID Report and Financial Statements document as
at 31 December 2015, it is written about the "partnership between AID
and Explodenti Sabino S.r.l. who, together have already demilitarized
over 60,000 M26 rockets", that "The joint AID/ES capability has no equal
in the European field, being more than double compared to other
companies in the sector." A collaboration that has continued over the
years, in fact in 2019 the company has a commission for the
demilitarization of hundreds of MILAN anti-tank missiles. It is not
clear at the moment what type of work the workers who died in
Casalbordino were carrying out and what production process the resulting
material was intended for. But it should not be forgotten that the
demilitarization of a projectile is a process that often serves to
obtain new raw material, both from the explosive material and from the
other components of the product. Therefore, if the company certainly has
direct responsibility for workplace safety in this new massacre of
workers, it is the disastrous war policy of the states that requires
dangerous work like this, to renew the arsenals and produce new armaments.

In the terrible event in Caselle on 16 September the connections with
war policies are certainly more evident. In this case it is clear how
war propaganda brought war itself into our lives. A senseless
demonstration of force, staged for the celebrations of the centenary of
the Air Force, taken to the extreme to the point of engulfing an entire
family in the fire following the crash of the Frecce Tricolori plane.
The centenary of the Italian air force has been accompanied by protests,
and the fascist government in office has made it an opportunity to build
consensus and warmongering propaganda, with great events across the
country that have followed one another for months. A large airshow
should have taken place in Turin to celebrate the centenary, two days of
nationalist delirium, which would have culminated with the performance
of the Frecce Tricolori. With this type of acrobatic show, as well as
with other performances, from parachuting to wingsuiting, the aim is to
represent war as an extreme sport, mythologising a history dotted with
massacres and bombings, to justify the war operations in which it is
still the Italian Air Force was involved.
ome newspapers said that that little girl, with her family, found
themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. But we refuse to
consider her death a calculated risk or a side effect, a consequence of
the delirious warmongering propaganda campaign that the government
carries out at a rapid pace.

Last week's deaths were caused by the rush towards war in which the
Italian government is launched together with those of the main powers.
If in times of "peace" these are the atrocious consequences of war in
our lives, we can only imagine what open war can cause. This is why it
is urgent to relaunch the anti-militarist commitment and broad
opposition to the war.
