The barbarity of war overwhelms our lives. In just a few days, two
terrible events have occurred which, although they may be unrelated toeach other, are both atrocious consequences of the climate of war we areexperiencing. Three workers die in the explosion of the artillerygrenade they were working on in Casalbordino, at the Sabino Explodenticompany, in the province of Chieti. A 5-year-old girl dies in the flamescaused by the crash of a Frecce Tircolori plane. She was traveling bycar with her family, traveling along a road outside the Turin CaselleAirport where the plane crashed. Her twelve-year-old brother isseriously injured, and her parents are also burned, albeit to a lesserextent. Many remembered how in the Sabino Explodenti production plant, threeother workers had already died in an explosion in 2020, a massacre whichoccurred in circumstances not too different from that of last September13th. The Casalbordino plant is a Major Accident Risk facility accordingto the Seveso legislation, which deals with "demilitarisation, recovery, transport, disposal and destruction of explosives, consultancy for thereclamation of land from war ordnance". Trade union organizations andpolitical representatives have denounced how, despite the reportsfollowing the 2020 massacre, after which it was closed, and for which atrial is still underway against company representatives, the plant wasreopened already in 2021 with simplified procedures, so much so that theAbruzzo Region has not placed it under the EIA procedure. To date, noExternal Emergency Plan has yet been published as would be required by law.If every company normally makes profits by sacrificing the safety ofworkers, the health of the inhabitants and the protection of theterritory, in this case it must be considered that Sabino Explodenti isa key partner of the Ministry of Defense for the processing of militaryammunition. According to the company's own statements, the explosionoccurred during the ammunition work on an artillery grenade, as part ofa contract for the Defense Industries Agency (AID), an "in house"company of the Ministry of Defense . Simplified procedures, negligence, lack of safety. What can be done about it? After all, strategicactivities, especially in the military sector, must continue to work nomatter what the cost, especially in times when there is a great need torenew arsenals. In the AID Report and Financial Statements document asat 31 December 2015, it is written about the "partnership between AIDand Explodenti Sabino S.r.l. who, together have already demilitarizedover 60,000 M26 rockets", that "The joint AID/ES capability has no equalin the European field, being more than double compared to othercompanies in the sector." A collaboration that has continued over theyears, in fact in 2019 the company has a commission for thedemilitarization of hundreds of MILAN anti-tank missiles. It is notclear at the moment what type of work the workers who died inCasalbordino were carrying out and what production process the resultingmaterial was intended for. But it should not be forgotten that thedemilitarization of a projectile is a process that often serves toobtain new raw material, both from the explosive material and from theother components of the product. Therefore, if the company certainly hasdirect responsibility for workplace safety in this new massacre ofworkers, it is the disastrous war policy of the states that requiresdangerous work like this, to renew the arsenals and produce new armaments. In the terrible event in Caselle on 16 September the connections withwar policies are certainly more evident. In this case it is clear howwar propaganda brought war itself into our lives. A senselessdemonstration of force, staged for the celebrations of the centenary ofthe Air Force, taken to the extreme to the point of engulfing an entirefamily in the fire following the crash of the Frecce Tricolori plane. The centenary of the Italian air force has been accompanied by protests, and the fascist government in office has made it an opportunity to buildconsensus and warmongering propaganda, with great events across thecountry that have followed one another for months. A large airshowshould have taken place in Turin to celebrate the centenary, two days ofnationalist delirium, which would have culminated with the performanceof the Frecce Tricolori. With this type of acrobatic show, as well aswith other performances, from parachuting to wingsuiting, the aim is torepresent war as an extreme sport, mythologising a history dotted withmassacres and bombings, to justify the war operations in which it isstill the Italian Air Force was involved.ome newspapers said that that little girl, with her family, foundthemselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. But we refuse toconsider her death a calculated risk or a side effect, a consequence ofthe delirious warmongering propaganda campaign that the governmentcarries out at a rapid pace.Last week's deaths were caused by the rush towards war in which theItalian government is launched together with those of the main powers. If in times of "peace" these are the atrocious consequences of war inour lives, we can only imagine what open war can cause. This is why itis urgent to relaunch the anti-militarist commitment and broadopposition to the war.FROMPosted in Anarchism, Antimilitarism, General, Work.Tagged with Defense Industries Agency, anarchism, Caselle, Chieti,Frecce tricolori, war, war industry, struggle, militarism, Murders atwork, solidarity, massacre, Turin, Umanità Nova.By collective - September 19, 2023https://collettivoanarchico.noblogs.org/post/2023/09/19/da-chieti-a-torino-la-corsa-verso-la-guerra-uccide/_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.ca
