It was opened in 2009, under the leadership of Nello Dipasquale, then in
Forza Italia, now owner of the local PD, and was defined as the "CivicMuseum of Italy in Africa"; heirs of the Savoy family were also invitedto the inauguration, and poor immigrants were also placed as a sidedish. It is housed in the lower part of the Town Hall, which in additionto the premises and utilities also provides the staff for the openings.---- In this newspaper we have dealt with this pseudo-museum severaltimes, in reality the collection of a private citizen, with well-knownfascist sympathies, based essentially on the display of colonialuniforms, accompanied by relics, topographical maps, proclamations, photographs on the eighty-year Italian colonial history in Africa, including the fascist period.Recently, some anti-fascist citizens, including comrades fromlibertarian Sicily, have raised the issue of this highly apologeticpresence of colonialism and fascism in the press; the occasion was givenby the outing of the "owner" of the museum, Mario Nobile, who tried torelaunch another issue: the installation in Ragusa of the statue of thefascist hierarch Filippo Pennavaria. "Older" readers will remember howin 2001 we were among the promoters of a campaign against this statue, wanted by the mayor of AN Domenico Arezzo and his acolytes, whichinitially found consensus also among the provincial administrations, which battle led to retreat leaving Ragusa alone. The statue, in themeantime, remained at the Barsani foundry in Marina di Pietrasanta (LU),and has never moved from that courtyard again, even though themunicipality paid the 250 million lire cost of its creation. The currentmayor Peppe Cassì, when specifically asked, declared that he did notintend to exhibit that monument, due to the role played by Pennavariaduring the twenty years of fascism.During an assembly promoted by CGIL and ANPI, in addition to a strongoutcry against the return of the statue, it was decided to relaunch amovement for the closure of the "museum" or for its criticalreinterpretation that brings out the truth face of Italian colonialismin Africa. In fact, the structure lacks the points of view of those who sufferedthe colonial exploits with all the atrocities committed by the Italianarmed forces, yet in 80 years there have been many dirty things, as wellhighlighted by those who have worked in serious manner of this veryunmentioned aspect of Italian history. And as those who had to sufferthe delusions of grandeur of the kingdom of Italy and the fascist regimeknow well.In 2014, one of our companions went to Turin to interview Angelo delBoca to get the opinion of one of the greatest experts on this sad story. Now, in response to the growing movement against the "museum", a fascistarea of Ragusa calling itself Ragusa in Movimento has announced aconference on Italian colonialism in Africa for September which theyherald as a moment of discussion and clarity, inviting Alberto to speakAlpozzi, defined as "one of the greatest scholars of Italiancolonialism". Alpozzi, an unknown name among the historians who havededicated themselves to delving into the topic, is a journalist who haswritten some volumes on colonialism and other facts linked to Italianfascism; highly appreciated in right-wing circles, he is presented as animpartial element capable of explaining the "Colonial lies-legends,fantasies and fake news on Italian colonialism" (title of his recentbook). One who declares "History is history. It should be studied andnot criticized." That is, history cannot be touched: even if it involvesgas chambers and the extermination of Jews or various genocidescommitted by dictatorships... Strange concept. Even more so since hehimself declares that Italian colonialism was born with Cavour, anticipating by at least 20 years the first Italian colonialist cry, thepurchase of management rights (and the robbery) of the bay of Assab inthe Red Sea in 1882, after the bankruptcy of the Rubattino company whichhad it under concession, thus demonstrating that he was a truespecialist in "legends, fantasy and fake news".If the current situation encourages fascists, anti-fascism must daremore, returning to make the wind of revolt and dignity whistle.Free Sicilianhttps://www.sicilialibertaria.it/_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.caSPREAD THE INFORMATION
