the banners that were carried above the heads of academics protestingagainst unbearable conditions in university departments in March of thisyear. Nothing has changed and this year on November 17, the day when theoperation of universities was restricted by force, they are taking tothe streets again. This time, universities are not threatened by apolitical dictatorship, but by an economic one. Teachers, especially inhumanities, are paid such low amounts that they are unable to cover thebasic needs of life. While food, rent and energy prices areskyrocketing, PhD contributions have remained the same for many years. However, academics are not railroad workers or miners. Unfortunately, their strikes do not have the potential to cripple the state'sinfrastructure, so the government pretends not to hear them. Theconsequences of this ignorance are less visible in society, but theunderfunding of universities will cause all the more damage. If thetrain drivers don't leave with the trains, it can be seen immediately. But if philologists, sociologists or political scientists graduallycease to be missing, when we belatedly realize why there is such a lowpolitical culture all around, the indifferent and increasingly poormiddle class runs to cheap pop culture and closes its eyes tocorruption, police violence or social crisis and to the foreheadneo-fascists and populists who defend the interests of the privilegedare getting in. The solution is not complicated - the underprivilegedmust support each other. A situation where a salesman in a supermarketdespises a philosopher and vice versa is advantageous precisely forthose who rule us. Once we realize that we are united by the same classinterests, regardless of the work we do, it will help us exert a muchstronger pressure.Czechoslovak Anarchist Association - CAShttps://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=122131688612030162&set=a.122095233212030162_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.ca
