We watch with horror the ongoing massive bombardment of millions of
people trapped in the Gaza Strip. ---- We consider it necessary toremind that their lives also matter. That we must not forget them. Thatthey too are (equally) valuable human beings who must be defended whenthey are being killed. That genocide or ethnic cleansing are terriblecrimes that cannot be justified by anything, not even the terroristattacks of Hamas, just as they cannot be justified by the daily crimesof Israeli apartheid.We continue to watch with greater dismay the distorted one-sided imagepresented by the media and personalities in Slovakia. The perspectivethey present borders on condoning the collective punishment ofPalestinians, or even crosses that line. Our dismay increases our needto stand up for the Palestinians.The dehumanization and demonization of Palestinian women that we arewitnessing is impermissibly strikingly reminiscent of the language usedby supporters of fascism to talk about their victims.We also perceive the incomprehensible silence of a large part of thespectrum of society that describes itself as democratic. Faced with thecruelty of Israel's attacks on Gaza, these people were unable to take aclear rejection of the crimes committed by the Israeli government andarmy. They cannot even reject the dehumanization and demonization of thePalestinians, often based on hoaxes and xenophobic conspiracy theories,which are incompatible with the values of democracy and human rights.However, the silence, which acts as an unspoken approval of Israel'spolicy, is incompatible with these values.We agree with the well-known saying that the world will not be destroyedby those who commit evil, but by those who watch it and do nothing.Let's stop watching and act!We are fully aware of the interconnectedness of various forms ofoppression and the need for a joint struggle of all oppressed groups.Therefore, with the same vigor with which we fight against racism,anti-Semitism, anti-Gypsyism, queer negativism and other forms ofsuperiority of one over the other and for the equality of all inSlovakia and beyond its borders, we also fight against the apartheidregime of Israel, whose genocidal features are taking on monstrousproportions these days .We must use our privilege to stand up for those who are recognized,pushed aside, made invisible and whose voice is ignored. It is thepeople who are being hit by Israeli bombs in Gaza, as well as many ofthe survivors of Hamas attacks in Israel, who are calling for an end tothe cycle of violence. Together with them, we insist that human life isas valuable and worthy of protection in Israel, Palestine as anywhereelse in the world, regardless of national, ethnic or religious identity.Only de-escalation and an end to oppression such as military occupationand the apartheid regime can lead to security. Only equality can lead tosecurity for all people who live between the Jordan River and theMediterranean Sea."Never ever!" it must apply to everyone - including the people of Gaza.We call a silent proteston Thursday at 18:00 in front of the presidential palace on Hodzov Square,not to join the hypocritical silence of selective humanists, but to holdup a mirror to them. Our silence is loud, critical, stirring. It pointsto the absurdity of tacit consent to the terrible crimes sanctioned byWestern officials and its incompatibility with the declared values ofdemocracy and human rights. Our silence is an indictment of indifferenceand a call for change.In fact, even the hypocritical silence is not silent.
