Press release from the International Secretariat of the CNT, publishedon October 13, 2023 ---- No one can rejoice in war and the deaths itproduces. We can only understand the pain of the loved ones of theIsraeli civilian victims who are experiencing this horror. ---- Weunderstand it because we mourn, alongside our Palestinian comrades, the230 victims of settlers or the occupying army in 2023, the thousand deadand more than 5,000 injured Palestinians since this weekend. ---- Weunderstand it because we do not forget the 4,900 Palestinian politicalprisoners, many of whom are suffering ill-treatment or torture. Amongthem, more than 1,000, including 5 children, are administrativeprisoners, incarcerated without trial and without hope of release. The lives of Palestinians are punctuated by the dramas of colonization, occupation and a policy of apartheid. The destruction of villages in 1948 continued with the incessantdestruction of Palestinian homes, such as in Silwan near Jerusalem andthe rest of the occupied territories, as well as the expulsion of evermore Palestinians from their lands. The rights of refugees, and inparticular the right of return, recognized by the UN, continue to beviolated.More and more land is being colonized, reducing the territory underPalestinian authority to nothing, divided into several enclaves byseparation walls. Agricultural land is requisitioned; participating inthe harvest means taking the risk of being lynched by settlers. Childrenon their way to school are chased and humiliated. In recent months, nota week goes by without one or more Palestinians being killed by theIsraeli army in the occupied territories. The daily life of the Palestinian people is hell produced by a racist, segregationist, criminal state that flouts international law. Thisreality is even worse for the population of Gaza (one of the mostdensely populated territories in the world, made up mainly of refugeesfrom 1948) who has been under a blockade for 15 years. A symbol of lifein Gaza: 87% of the water there is non-drinkable. Locked in thisopen-air prison, the population tries to survive, under regularbombardments by the Israeli army in recent years.WHAT HOPE REMAINS FOR PALESTINIANS?Hamas' military offensive must be understood in this context andperspective. We clearly do not share his social project. But this shouldnot prevent us from recognizing the legitimate right of Palestinians todefend themselves and resist colonization and occupation, for theirself-determination and freedom. All Israeli governments are responsible for this situation, with thecomplicity of world powers, such as France. And on the Palestinian side, the corrupt Palestinian Authority continues to collaborate with theoccupier. This weekend, Israeli civilians were affected by the fighting. In asociety where everyone does armed military service, with missions aimedat oppressing the Palestinian population, it is difficult to hope thatIsraeli civil society will recognize the responsibility of its leaders.Let us hope that the Refuzniks and the few Israeli opponents ofcolonization are finally heard. This is one of the hopes for peace. The relentless military response, which is undoubtedly only justbeginning, is affecting the entire Palestinian population, as theIsraeli state is wont to do. Incessant bombings in the Gaza Strip, hundreds of deaths and thousands of injured, hospitals and medical teamstargeted. Unable to flee, the population will be under complete blockadein the coming days, without water, without electricity, without gas. Inthe rest of the occupied territories the majority of movements areblocked, and provisions in certain villages will not last more than a week. Many states reaffirm their support for Israel, without questioning thecolonial situation, in which many are complicit. As long as this willful blindness in the face of so much injustice, aslong as this refusal to recognize any right of the Palestinian peopleand in particular that of self-determination continues, as long as thereality of the populations is denied and distorted, no just solution canemerge because we do not rely on lies. The CNT-F, with its unfailing support for the struggles fordecolonization and emancipation, will always stand on the side of theweak against the powerful and reaffirms the right to self-determinationof peoples.International solidarity with the Palestinian people againstcolonization and occupation will need to be strengthened even more today."There is no alternative to self-determination"https://international.cnt-f.org/Pour-la-paix-entre-les-peuples-justice-et-respect-des-droits-du-peuple-palestinien.html_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.ca
