"Climate gone crazy": this was the real catchphrase of summer 2023, far
superior to those masterpieces of human creativity that usuallymercilessly martyr our ears during the summer season. ---- And in fact, how can we not talk about the climate going crazy after a summer inwhich we unfortunately saw a notable number of extreme climatic events.A summer, according to the Copernicus C3S (1), characterized by arecord-breaking July in terms of temperatures at a global level, so muchso that it pushed UN Secretary Guterres to declare that the planet isnow "in the era of 'boiling".Yet we believe this talk of "climate gone crazy" does not correctlydescribe this phenomenon we are experiencing. The verb "to go crazy",according to the Treccani dictionary available online, means "to become mad, to lose the use of reason"; then there is afigurative meaning, associated instead with tools, mechanisms, devices, and in this sense it means "suddenly and unexpectedly starting tofunction in a very irregular way".Therefore, according to the mass media narrative, the climate has gonemad in the sense that, suddenly and unexpectedly, it has started tofunction irregularly: an unforeseen event, in front of which we can onlyimagine an adequate emergency response, at most implementing adaptationpolicies to this crazy climate that doesn't want to behave as it should. Then it happens that in "The Harvard Gazette", where thelatest news regarding Harvard University, we come across the news that aresearch led by the noteuniversity shows that the multinationalAmerican Exxon (ESSO brand inEurope) "has modeled and predicted theglobal warming with shockingskill and accuracy starting from'70s" (5).According to this group of researchers, which also involves the Institute ofPotsdam for research into the impact ofclimate change, between 1977 and2003 Exxon conducted researchaimed at defining the impact of CO2 emissions on global warming, leading to the production of forecasting models of considerableprecision, such asidentify a trend of increase inglobal temperature that would already bebeen proven by facts: 0.2 °C perdecays, with a margin of error of 0.04°C.Another interesting element thatemerges from the article in "The HarvardGazette" is the research group ofExxon, excluding that heatingglobal was to be attributed to a new oneice age, he indicated at the same timethe year 2000, with a margin of errorof 5 years, as the beginning of the first effectsof anthropogenic global warming.According to what the aforementioned tells us research for several decades would have beenIt is possible to predict an increase in temperaturesglobal: we can therefore still talk about "climategone mad"?Evidently dealing with complexesproblems of today's reality such assomething that comes crashing down on usunexpected and sudden way, on whichwe have no control whatsoevernot in somehow managing aafter the effects, is the figure of thetoday's politics. Problem managementin the eternal emergency perspective it offersa convenient excuse to avoid oneserious analysis of the causes; even becauseoften from a detailed analysis of theproblems emerge requiring solutionsradical and systemic actions that do notthey marry with the maintenance of the status quo, so dear to those whohold political and economic power, as well as the privileges that derivefrom this power. So let's keep talking about"heat emergency", "drought emergency"and "rain emergency", soas it has been going on for more than 20 years nowto talk about the "immigration emergency".We wait for our darlingpolitician resolves the issue as alusual, proposing simple solutions toextremely complex, epochal problems; In theMeanwhile great discussions on alljobs and social issues on the caseof the "inflated" bar receipts for thecutting the sandwich or for usingmore milk for a non-foamed cappuccino! We do not accept this narrative, the climate hasn't gone crazy, the emergenciesthey cannot last for decades: it is therean economic and political system, thisyes lucidly crazy, which continues theits crazy race towards infinite growth, dotted with territorial robbery policiesand profit extraction costs thatwhat it costs, not caring about the impactsthis may have on the environment and living beings. An economic model that yields privilegesunimaginable for a handful ofpeople, handing out crumbs or not at allthose to almost the entire populationterrestrial; all this while the worst effectsof global warmingthey specifically affect the populations ofmost plundered territoriestheir resources. The challenge to global warming is notit can only move from the struggle to a systemof production and distribution of wealthprofoundly unfair: just thatoffers the guarantee that this challenge will not arisereduce to a technological renewalof the capitalist infrastructure and to onemere opening of new markets.Note:1) C3S is the service dedicated toCopernicus climate change, theEarth observation programof European Unionhttp://alternativalibertaria.fdca.it/wpAL/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/foglio-ottobre-2023-1.pdf_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.ca
