The decision has been made: you cannot dissolve an uprising. The
cancellation of the decree dissolving the Earth Uprisings by the Councilof State is a victory for the environmental movement, and for the entiresocial movement! However, this victory is also a wake-up call. ---- OnJune 21, Gérald Darmanin, continuing the repression of the Sainte-Solinedemonstration against the mega-basins, proclaimed the dissolution of theEarth Uprisings. After several months of legal battle, the Council ofState finally overturned the government's decision. Justice ruled thatdissolution could not be justified in the case of the Earth Uprisings,as the collective was not responsible for the violence that took placeduring the demonstration.However, the Council of State did not only rule on their cases. He alsoconfirmed that the Lyon and surroundings anti-fascist group, theCoordination against racism and Islamophobia, but also that the Alvarium(Angers identity group) remained dissolved. This dissolution is aconsequence of the "Separatism" law, which sets new grounds foradministrative dissolution, including the very vague "provocation ofviolence against property or people". By reading this conceptextensively, the Council of State creates a dangerous precedent, whichthreatens the entire social movement.Dissolution, a double-edged solutionIf this announcement of the failure of the Macron government to dissolvethe Earth Uprisings rejoices us, we are alarmed by the dissolution ofthe GALE and the CRI.Indeed, although we do not share the political lines of theseorganizations, this is a worrying signal. If the dissolution of fascistgroups like Alvarium seems useful at first glance, this solution isdouble-edged. The government puts the "extremes" back to back, claimingto attack all forms of violence. We are not fooled: the government'sstrategy is to muzzle social protest by using all forms of repressionwithin its reach: police violence, criminal prosecution of activists,dissolutions, etc. Today it is the GALE and the CRI which are affected,tomorrow it could be any other collective, political organization orunion opposing the government.No to the criminalization of the social movement!While the government dissolves the GALE, the fascist groups in Lyonstill benefit from total impunity and the complacency of the prefectureand town hall. Despite the mobilization of the social movement, theirpremises remain open and their attacks go unpunished.The dissolution of the CRI is anchored in the continuity of thedissolution of the Collective against Islamophobia in France (CCIF) in2020, although the two entities are different. The signal sent remains acriminalization of the fight for equality and against racism. Itencourages media and political harassment of Muslims under the guise of"fighting separatism" and religious extremism which, even if it mayexist, finds its fuel precisely in this racist stigmatization.The Uprisings of the Earth brought Darmanin to his knees. We aredelighted but we must continue the ecological fight and against thedissolutions repressing the social movement. UCL denounces this newrepressive attack.
