WORLD WORLDWIDE FRANCE News Journal Update - (en) France, UCL - Anti-fascism, Anti-fascist social forums: better understand the extreme right to better fight it (ca, de, fr, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

On November 12, the Anti-Fascist Social Forums (FSA) will be held inVilleurbanne, a day of debates and conferences to recall the importanceof the fight against an extreme right which is increasingly increasingits influence and its violence. Among its targets, racialized people,LGBTI people and left-wing activists, including those from UCL. ----Lyon, the "capital of Gaul", is best known today for being the "capitalof the fascists". It is therefore near this city, in Villeurbanne, thatthe Antifascist Social Forums will take place on Sunday, November 12, atthe initiative of the collective "Fermons les premises fascistes". Thiscollective, of which UCL is a stakeholder, is fighting for the closureof places such as the La Traboule bar or the Agogé boxing gym, known forbringing together members of openly fascist and racist organizations. Onthe program for the day, discussions and debates around different themessuch as the extreme right in power, its relationship to patriarchy, thepropaganda tools it uses and how to fight against it.In the streets as in the chamber, the far right in France is gainingground. This extreme right-wing has even taken place within the Statesince a minister, Gérald Darmanin, formerly of Action Française, movedto a ministry as sensitive to our collective freedoms as the Ministry ofthe Interior. It is also the first time in France that a far-rightparty, the National Rally, has managed to obtain so many seats in theNational Assembly during the last legislative elections. This disastrousarrival within the legislative power highlighted the ideologicalconvergences and the alliances of circumstance between the party ofEmmanuel Macron and that of Jordan Bardella. A convergence that came tolight on the occasion of the access to the vice-presidency of theNational Assembly of two RN candidates made possible, among otherthings, by the presidential majority. If this arrival within political power is relatively recent, thepresence of the extreme right in our streets is much older. And Lyon isone of the cities in which it has developed the most, to the point of nolonger having to hide.It is not uncommon, for more than ten years, to see the city of Lyoncited as the laboratory of the French extreme right. This may seemsurprising because the National Front, and now the National Rally, donot achieve a high score in the various local elections (8.97% in thefirst round of the last legislative elections). However, it is in Lyonthat many fascist and neo-Nazi groups are born, develop (and disappearfor some). It is the same with attempts, rarely lasting, to openpremises accessible to the public: Lyon serves as a launching pad andtraining ground for many far-right activists. How can we explain such adevelopment of these groups and the cycles of violence that accompany it?Even if Lyon is often identified as the capital of the Resistance, itnevertheless collaborated and kept certain traces of it. It is thereforeno surprise that Lyon has for years inherited all the groups that theextreme right can count on: pseudo student union (GUD, Student Cocarde),Action Française, Identitaires (Identitaire Generation then Remparts),revolutionary nationalists (Lyon Populaire), school of identityexecutives (ISSEP of Marion Maréchal). She also had to fight attempts atunity by different groups such as the Social Bastion and the opening ofpremises to the public (Bunker Corps, Black Pavilion). Thanks to themobilization of unitary collectives and residents, most of thesepremises have closed. Only the Traboule des Identitaires and its Agogésports hall remain open; UCL and its allies will continue to tirelesslyfight against these small groups. The organization of the FSA therefore naturally finds its place in theUCL strategy of building unitary frameworks and organizing publicmeetings, with the leitmotif: understanding to fight better. Meet us atthe FSA on November 12 at the CCVA in Villeurbanne (program accessibleon the X account of "Let's close the fascist premises":https://twitter.com/FrmLesLocFascst).
