On November 12, the Anti-Fascist Social Forums (FSA) will be held in
Villeurbanne, a day of debates and conferences to recall the importance
of the fight against an extreme right which is increasingly increasing
its influence and its violence. Among its targets, racialized people,
LGBTI people and left-wing activists, including those from UCL. ----
Lyon, the "capital of Gaul", is best known today for being the "capital
of the fascists". It is therefore near this city, in Villeurbanne, that
the Antifascist Social Forums will take place on Sunday, November 12, at
the initiative of the collective "Fermons les premises fascistes". This
collective, of which UCL is a stakeholder, is fighting for the closure
of places such as the La Traboule bar or the Agogé boxing gym, known for
bringing together members of openly fascist and racist organizations. On
the program for the day, discussions and debates around different themes
such as the extreme right in power, its relationship to patriarchy, the
propaganda tools it uses and how to fight against it.

In the streets as in the chamber, the far right in France is gaining
ground. This extreme right-wing has even taken place within the State
since a minister, Gérald Darmanin, formerly of Action Française, moved
to a ministry as sensitive to our collective freedoms as the Ministry of
the Interior. It is also the first time in France that a far-right
party, the National Rally, has managed to obtain so many seats in the
National Assembly during the last legislative elections. This disastrous
arrival within the legislative power highlighted the ideological
convergences and the alliances of circumstance between the party of
Emmanuel Macron and that of Jordan Bardella. A convergence that came to
light on the occasion of the access to the vice-presidency of the
National Assembly of two RN candidates made possible, among other
things, by the presidential majority.

If this arrival within political power is relatively recent, the
presence of the extreme right in our streets is much older. And Lyon is
one of the cities in which it has developed the most, to the point of no
longer having to hide.

It is not uncommon, for more than ten years, to see the city of Lyon
cited as the laboratory of the French extreme right. This may seem
surprising because the National Front, and now the National Rally, do
not achieve a high score in the various local elections (8.97% in the
first round of the last legislative elections). However, it is in Lyon
that many fascist and neo-Nazi groups are born, develop (and disappear
for some). It is the same with attempts, rarely lasting, to open
premises accessible to the public: Lyon serves as a launching pad and
training ground for many far-right activists. How can we explain such a
development of these groups and the cycles of violence that accompany it?

Even if Lyon is often identified as the capital of the Resistance, it
nevertheless collaborated and kept certain traces of it. It is therefore
no surprise that Lyon has for years inherited all the groups that the
extreme right can count on: pseudo student union (GUD, Student Cocarde),
Action Française, Identitaires (Identitaire Generation then Remparts),
revolutionary nationalists (Lyon Populaire), school of identity
executives (ISSEP of Marion Maréchal). She also had to fight attempts at
unity by different groups such as the Social Bastion and the opening of
premises to the public (Bunker Corps, Black Pavilion). Thanks to the
mobilization of unitary collectives and residents, most of these
premises have closed. Only the Traboule des Identitaires and its Agogé
sports hall remain open; UCL and its allies will continue to tirelessly
fight against these small groups.

The organization of the FSA therefore naturally finds its place in the
UCL strategy of building unitary frameworks and organizing public
meetings, with the leitmotif: understanding to fight better. Meet us at
