A pair of abject and miserable politicians grace the political scene ofBritain and the world: Richi Sunak and Suella Braverman. In a phase ofrelations between peoples, in which migrations imposed by war, climateand economic reasons constitute the characteristic features of the era,the two think everything to deny the most basic human rights and competefor the leadership of the Conservative party, in view of the politicalelections that will take place next year in Great Britain. Both comefrom families belonging to that class of colonial servants produced bythe British Empire who, already belonging to the ruling classes of theircountries of origin, or to the mercantile bourgeoisie that grew up inthe shadow of the colonizers, placed themselves at the service of theEmpire to profit from their class position, create or increase theirwealth, contributing to enslaving the colonial populations and absorbingthe myth of the Empire, to the point of identifying with it.With the end of the colonial Empire, their parents moved to England, their chosen homeland, and their offspring forgot their migrant originsto transfer their arrogance to the social and economic role they hadacquired, in the haughty belief of having implemented an irreversibleclass leap that made them organic to the master race, causing them to despise and oppose those who today live the conditionsof their ancestors. And in defense of the exclusive prerogatives theyhave acquired, they are now attacking the most disadvantaged, theweakest, who they consider an integral part of the scum of humanity thattries to attack rich and opulent societies.Of bourgeois origins, Prime Minister Sunak exhibits an economic andclass position built on the fortunes of a family who had alreadyemigrated from India to Kenya, who built their well-being through thepursuit of liberal professions such as those of doctors and pharmacistsand who with careful investments of the proceeds thus obtained, she thenmoved to the metropolitan territory of the British Isles to enjoy theaccumulated assets. The young Sunak scion was able to capitalize on thefamily's economic availability to establish himself in politics, militating among the Conservatives, and espousing the positions of thewarmongering establishment of that party which dragged England into thefailed adventure of Brexit and promoted the closure of the country torelations with Europe and the world, sharing with the party leadership apolicy of opposition to immigration which, in the face of facts, hasproven to be a failure. Today Sunak stands as a standard bearer of theglories of the British Empire and closes the borders to migrants due toBrexit. To deal with all this, Sunak found it convenient to fully embrace thepositions of his home minister, better known by the nickname "Cruella",(remember Cruella Demon?) proposing first the ghettoisation and then thedeportation of migrants. Everyone knows the images of the hotel ship, built with the significant appearance of a gigantic raft hosting aprison housing unit, anchored in the port of Portland, in Dorset, on thesouth English coast: a sort of "prison ship", intended by the Minister, equipped as a detention center for "illegal" migrants and destined tohost, from now on, at least 500 asylum seekers awaiting an unlikelytransfer by airlift to Rwanda, while their requests for permit ofresidence in England are examined.Sunak's leadership of the Conservatives is being undermined, in view ofthe next elections, precisely by Braverman, who also comes from animmigrant family. Braverman, (surname acquired because she was bornMootien-Pillay) also has parents of Indian origin, who migrated fromKenya and the Mauritius islands. The daughter of secondgeneration immigrants, her mother was born in a neighborhood of Londonto a Mauritian Tamil Hindu family, the granddaughter of the MauritianHigh Commissioner in London. Her father was a Guinean Catholic whoworked more modestly in a housing association. Coming therefore from aLondon bourgeoisie family, the young scionspecialized in law, holding numerous and well-paid prestigiouspositions, always taking sides in defense of employer and businessinterests. Since 2015 she has held numerous political positions ofgrowing prestige: she was part of the Johnson Government as minister, only to then ask for his resignation, and compete first with Liz Trussand then with Sunak for the position of prime minister and be defeatedby him; now she is trying again, in a dispute that pits the Hindu Sunakagainst her avowedly Buddhist, but both reactionaries and neo-fascists,children of a bourgeoisie formed in the colonies. The attack on the 1951 Geneva Convention on Asylum SeekersA popular saying claims that "God makes them and then couples them" andthis is exactly what happens between Sumak and his minister, who hasmade the fight against illegal immigration one of the priorities of herpolicy. On September 26, in a speech to the American EnterpriseInstitute on the refugee crisis in Europe, she argued that the right toasylum has been significantly distorted since its establishment in theaftermath of World War II and that the 1951 Geneva Convention is nowoutdated. Suella Braverman estimated that the migration phenomenon willonly increase:in the coming years an ever-increasing number of people will choose tomigrate. You therefore urge that Western countries, in their defense, review the criteria for granting the right to asylum in order to containrequests for reception.First of all, the British Home Secretary specified that: "Wanting asylumor wanting better living conditions is not the same thing. Seekingrefuge in the first safe country you reach or going shopping to chooseyour favorite destination is not the same thing! Being a victim oftrafficking, having been transported against your will or soldas a sexual slave, or paying traffickers to be taken to a developedcountry, is not the same thing!" therefore the right to asylum "is nolonger suited to our times ", since "the growth of this right createsvery strong incentives for illegal immigration". "These provisions werecreated after World War II to allow people to escape persecution and theHolocaust, and they were an incredible step forward for their time!" Butnow "we live in a completely different world."For these reasons it is necessary to urgently change the legaldefinition of refugee which today, according to him, is too flexible to"fear of being persecuted due to race, religion, nationality, membershipof a certain social group or political opinions" it cannot be asufficient reason to obtain protection andprotection because "There has been[since 1951]a shift, as a result ofthe interpretation provided by jurisprudence, from the notion ofpersecution towards something that is more similar to discrimination. Itis a second shift, from the idea ofcertain fear towards only probable or plausible fear", "So more and morepeople can today have the right to refugee status".The British Home Secretary, in exhibiting his racist frenzy, added:"I'll be very clear, there are large parts of the world where it isextremely difficult to be homosexual or to be a woman. And when peopleare persecuted, it is right that we offer them refuge. But our asylumsystem is not sustainable in the long term if, in fact, the simple factof being homosexual or being a woman and fearing discrimination in one'scountry of origin is enough to qualify for protection. "The entente cordiale between Italy and the United KingdomIn light of the reconstruction just made, it is easy to understand whyMeloni found political support in Great Britain, even if the English andItalian governments cannot boast any success in combating emigration.Like the Italian one, Rishi Sunak's government has to deal with numberson legal immigration that are completely out of line with the(unrealistic) promises made to voters: in fact, if on the eve of Brexitthere were 336 thousand arrivals in Great Britain; for 2022 the figureshould be around 700 thousand. Other than the 45 thousand landings onthe English coast, on which both public opinion and Braverman'sstatements focus. Today only 9 percent of Britons believe that Brexitwas a positive choice. Even among those who voted to leave , only 20percent judge leaving the EU as "generally a success", while for 37%Brexit is "generally a failure". The problem is that 75% of those whovoted to leave the EU think that the result is the fault of the Torieswho were unable to give shape to a good idea and refuse to see the totalfailure of this policy. This situation means that meetings between the Italian and Englishgovernments are now increasingly frequent, and that policies areincreasingly similar, due to their common membership of theConservatives, even if Great Britain is outside the European Union. Ablind Atlanticism characterizes the two governments that compete inuncritically supporting Ukraine, while the Kiev government finds itselfin a situation of growing isolation. The expectation is that theincreasingly difficult political situation will lead the two reactionarygovernments to failure. The elections in Great Britain, which will takeplace in 2024, constitute a significant test.Much will depend on the Labor opposition which will have to demonstrateits ability to disengage the government from uncritical support forUkraine, but above all to be able to give a convincing response to theeconomic crisis characterized by growing inflation, the abyss into whichthe system has fallen healthcare and education, with low wages, countered by an uninterrupted wave of strikes, all problems that largelydepend on a reset of economic and commercial, as well as political, relations with Europe. An objective on which the Labor Party isseriously behind, having failed to distance itself clearly and clearlyfrom Brexit and the political choices of the Conservatives. The positions of the Bleerian Labor leader Keir Starmer who exaltsBritish values, the King, the unity of the country and is nostalgic forthe Commonwealth and dreams of reconquering the working-class areas byfocusing on the effects of the Tories' scandals do not help a change inpolitical line. rather than on diversity in the policies to be followed.G.L.https://www.ucadi.org/2023/10/21/gran-bretagna-la-feccia-al-potere/_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.ca
