After a "fought" meeting at the Palestra Lupo in Catania, last September

10th, it was decided that the Sicilian demonstration on October 21st
will be held in the city of Palermo. ---- The term "fought" is not
accidental, because the assembly saw the contrast between two ways of
facing the battle against the war, and it was always articulated along
the lines of forcing and splitting. These are things that happen when
very specific political areas decide to invest their resources within
movements, such as the NO MUOS one, which have always been measured
based on their ability to control and direct them. The final decision of
the comrades of the Movement was therefore wise to avoid a fracture that
would have harmed the struggle itself, and to adhere to the
"non-mediable" proposal to promote the procession in Palermo rather than
in Catania or Sigonella.

This is not the place to delve into these dynamics, which however we do
not want to superimpose silence on. Let's just say that for us in the
editorial team, who have been firm supporters of the autonomy of the NO
MUOS Movement, as of any movement, from any type of external, political,
party or institutional interference, this situation sounds like an alarm
bell that must make us reflect and must induce NO MUOS activists to
raise their "immune defenses". The fight will be long, and October 21st
is nothing more than one stage among many. As can be read in the appeal
below, the Movement gets there with its own path that takes into account
its own history, its own analyzes and its own strategies, without being
swallowed up by platforms and decisions rained down from above, while
maintaining a strong united spirit and collaborative.

WAR ON IMPERIALIST WAR

The No Muos movement welcomes and makes its own the proposal to build a
mobilization against the imperialist war and the militarization of the
territories.

Since the beginning of hostilities, Italy has been increasingly involved
in the war in Ukraine. The ongoing conflict directly affects our
country's society: from schools, to universities, to workplaces; from
the countryside to the cities. The Meloni government and the vast
majority of parliamentary forces (including a large part of the
opposition) give full and total uncritical support to the Atlanticist
line, acting as the sole bloc in favoring militarist policies and in
support of the capitalist bourgeoisie who profit from the war, using it
in criminal way to get out of the current systemic crisis by making the
population pay the costs and consequences. The involvement of Italian
industry in war politics is blatantly visible with the expensive
renovation works of the Cavour aircraft carrier carried out by the
Palermo shipyards (which are preparing to receive the new
multifunctional warship Trieste) and in the ever-increasing involvement
of the giant Leonardo , leader of the electronics industry for war
purposes, also present in the city of Palermo. Industry, with state
participation, involved in multi-million dollar deals in the
construction of increasingly elaborate armaments to spread death and
destruction in a climate of growing patriotic and nationalist rhetoric.

All this is accompanied by the ability to address every social problem
arising from the flaws of the capitalist system, with security and
militaristic policies, as happens in the management of the migration
issue, characterized by segregations, deportations and rejections, or as
in the case of the alleged responses to the increasingly widespread
feminicides and rapes.

On October 21st we will be in the square in Palermo with a procession
against the war and military spending, at the same time as the
mobilizations that will take place in Tuscany (Pisa), in Lombardy
(Ghedi), in Puglia (Taranto)

# to block the sending of weapons to Ukraine, stop rearmament policies,
stop the rush to increasingly devastating instruments of death;

# for the conversion of military bases for civilian use (such as that of
Sigonella into a civil merchant airport);

# for the dismantling of the MUOS base in Niscemi (Cl), increasingly
involved in theaters of war;

# in support of territorial struggles against military bases and firing
ranges;

# against the war industry, military spending and the growing
militarization of our cities;

# for the fight against the increasingly pressing militarist propaganda
in schools and universities;

# always with those who oppose the war both in Russia and in Ukraine;

# for political and material support to those opposed to the war, to
deserters and dodgers;

# with the Ukrainian and Russian peoples who suffer the horrors of the
imperialist war; # always alongside the oppressed and oppressed
throughout the world;

# against all imperialisms (American, European, Italian, Russian, Chinese).

No Move Movement

On the sidelines of the organization of the demonstration on 21 October,
we note new interventions by the judiciary against NO MUOS activists, in
this case from Catania, sentenced to several months for the initiatives
implemented during the 2019 camp. We will provide more details in the
next issue.
