Heval Mazlum, commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces SDF has just
made unprecedented statements on the situation in Palestine and Gaza:"Israel is currently using its full military power in Gaza saying it isdetermined to "wipe out" Hamas. The Kurds are also in the face of powersthat are bent on destroying our existence. The results are clear.Neither the Palestinians nor the Kurds will disappear nor give up theirfight for justice, no matter what." ---- "This disproportionate forcecurrently deployed by Israel is creating fertile ground for extremism.It's early days, but the risk of a new cycle of extremist terror thatcould set the region ablaze and spill over to the West is very real. Theconflict in Gaza is offering terrorist groups like Daesh the opportunityto enhance their propaganda and recruitment efforts, and we fully expectto see new terrorist groups emerge using Gaza to legitimize theirexistence and see existing groups acting in concert under new labels. ""To be sure, if anything the conflict in Gaza should serve as a reminderto the world that we, the Syrian Democratic Forces, are the antithesisof violent extremism and have lost more than 11,000 of our men and womenfighting Daesh. In doing so, we do not we have only protected ourselvesbut[also]the rest of the world, from Europe to the Sahel where Daesh isstill active. We embrace democratic and secular values, gender equalityand people of all faiths and beliefs. For example, you will have seenhow one of the great churches of Hasakah is restored. We should besupported, not attacked.""Let us be clear that the attacks carried out by Hamas on Israelicivilians are absolutely unacceptable and we condemn themwholeheartedly. We believe that Hamas did not act independently and wasfurthering the agenda of external actors.Israel's response and the shocking number of Palestinian civilian deathsthat followed are no less acceptable.
