The President turned out to be an anarchist? ---- Our podcast usually
covers events in or around Russia, but two stories have recently emergedthat an anarchist news project can't ignore. ---- Argentina allegedlyelected anarchist president Javier Millay. He calls himself ananarcho-capitalist, including posing with the black and gold diagonalflag of so-called "market anarchism." The flag is similar to the blackand red flag we are used to, but instead of red it is gold, according toMillay, signifying the ability to acquire wealth.Millay won against the background of impoverishment of the population, huge inflation and fatigue of Argentines from the country's traditionalcenter-left establishment. Millay demands a radical reduction in therole of the state and sympathizes with former US President Trump andformer Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. Is Millay an anarchist in our understanding of the word? Of course not.Calling for a reduction in the role of the state, he first of all talksabout the curtailment of social support institutions, and not about thereduction of the state as an apparatus of violence. You can quote the text of the Belarusian anarchists from the group"Pramen": "The key problem lies in the conditions of the witheringaway/destruction of the state. Not every end-of-state scenariorepresents a transition to an anarchic society. One of the foundationsof anarchism is a deeper look at the problems of power in general.Modern anarchists advocate not only the abolition of statehood, but alsoall other forms of human exploitation: capitalism, patriarchy, racismand many others. In the case of Argentina, an aggressive reduction in the role of thestate and the transfer of the right to violence to private companies andcorporations can only lead to the transfer of power into the hands ofelites, over which the ordinary population has no influence at all. Ifthe state sometimes experiences moments of political shock, as in thecase of the election of a libertarian as president, then in corporationsdecisions are made behind closed doors by only a small group of managers.Let's not forget quite simple truths: just as not every revolution leadsto the liberation of the working people (and from our history weremember that even under red flags, exploitation can continue for a longtime), and not every abolition of the state leads to an increase in thefreedoms of the population. Last week, Argentines chose a far-rightpolitician, contrary to the lessons of the past and present."Let us wish the Argentines to survive the reign of this gentleman withminimal damage to themselves. And for us... PR is never black. Let'shope that the news coverage of the so-called "anarchist president" willeventually attract additional attention to the ideas of normal anarchists.Zapatista self-governmentIn November, alarming news came from Chiapas that the Zapatistas wereclosing the "snails," their regional centers of self-government. Theywere so called because the snail is important in Mayan mythology. Thenreports appeared that the Zapatistas as a whole are doing well, theyjust now have a different system of self-government, not structuredaccording to a regional principle. We must understand that the Zapatistas exist in difficult conditions, and have long been not an armed group, but a civil movement, and this isprecisely what makes them strong at the moment. On January 1, they planto celebrate the 30th anniversary of their armed uprising, but when andif they take up arms again, the Mexican state, ready for such a step, can be expected to quickly destroy them.So now the Zapatistas have to endure attacks from right-wingparamilitaries supported by the authorities, and also watch the warbetween drug cartels unfolding, including on their territory. TheZapatistas have managed to survive in these difficult conditions for 30years, and being thousands of kilometers from the south of Mexico, onecan assume that their methods of resistance are working.Russian budgetIf in Argentina they plan to abandon the social obligations of the statefor the sake of libertarian quasi-freedom, in Russia the state socialsystem is sacrificed to imperial madness.Putin is due to sign the 2024 budget this coming week . And this willbe a record budget: almost 40% of spending is planned for military needs(10.8 trillion rubles) and law enforcement agencies (3.4 trillion rubles). Not everyone knows, but the cops have been "optimized" for many years noworse than state medicine, and there are also a lot of unfilledvacancies in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the InvestigativeCommittee, and the Federal Penitentiary Service. The authorities areconcerned about this problem and intend to increase benefits andsalaries for those who must protect them from the people.Social expenditures of the 2024 budget are a record low since 2011 ,they will amount to 7.7 trillion rubles, 21%. The resettlement programsfor emergency housing , ecology , and others were cut . They willallegedly "increase" spending on health care and education much lowerthan predicted inflation. Moreover, the budget is designed not just for high oil prices, but alsofor the fact that Russia will successfully sell its minerals in 2024,with which, too, "not everything is so simple." Now let's imagine whatexpenses will be further reduced if income is less than planned?Officials will obviously not reach into the pockets of cops and warriors. So the choice is clear and unambiguous: either the Putin regime willcontinue to burn the material resources and population of Russia in thefire of the so-called "SVO", the meaning and goals of which are unknowneven to the most devoted Putinists - or we will be able to hit theoutgrown Russian state in the ears. And redirect the enormous potentialof our country from the production of tanks and shells to the real needsof people.Well that's all for today!
