Today, January 10, 2024, marks a dangerous turn in Russia: The Supreme Court decision to label the "international public LGBT+ movement" as extremist has come into force, threatening the very existence of Russian LGBT+ people.

The situation is escalating rapidly. Since the ruling, a nationwide "witch hunt" has begun: police are raiding gay clubs, streaming services are censoring queer content to avoid draconian laws, and even geographical and museum names are being altered in a bizarre overreach of censorship.

For many LGBT+ people in Russia, it has just become too dangerous to stay in the country. That's why Russian activists are asking governments around the world to make it easier for their community members to escape and find a safe haven abroad.

More than 34,000 All Out members have already signed the Sphere Foundation's petition calling for safe passage and visas for those at risk.
