Against the areas of North-East Syria, mainly inhabited by Kurdishpopulations and managed by the AANES (Autonomous Administration ofNorth-East Syria), Turkey has intensified military attacks since lastautumn against water and energy sources, their distribution networks,food warehouses and processing industries, medical facilities, printingpresses, garment factories. ---- Between 15 and 18 January 2024, in justthree days, dozens and dozens of bombings were launched against petrolstations and power plants, leaving more than 900 villages withoutelectricity. Italy's responsibilities are direct and evident, as Turkeyis one of the major export markets for the Italian war industry, led byLeonardo and Beretta, through the supply of weapons, helicopters, bombs,missiles and drones.With these terrorist actions, Turkey, taking advantage of the warsituation involving the Middle East, wants to hit the economic bases ofthe population, bringing about the collapse of the structures ofself-government based on democratic confederalism, destroying the socialgains obtained with a hard struggle, thus always making life in theregion is more difficult, if not impossible.Once again, an international mobilization is necessary to force thegovernment of Turkish President Recer Tayyip Erdogan to stop thebombings and to respect the freedoms, autonomy and self-determination ofthe peoples of Rojava.In this mobilization, the request for the release of Abdullah Öcalan,detained for over 25 years, in inhuman conditions of isolation, on theisland of Imrali, takes on particular importance. In fact, we recallthat until 2015, talks were held in prison between a Turkish delegationand Öcalan to find a way of political resolution to the conflict betweenTurkey and the Kurdish liberation movement; talks suddenly interruptedby Erdogan with the military offensive against the Kurdish cities ofTurkey - Cizre, Nusaybin, the Sur neighborhood of Diyarbakir - causingthe displacement of hundreds of thousands of people and hundreds ofcivilian victims.
