While he hangs on himself the medals of the first pacifist in the world,
Pope Francis does not give up and returns to attacking what he defines
as "gender ideology", demonstrating how the war waged by the Church has
always been waged against every subjectivity different from the
chauvinist and patriarchal scheme, is more alive more than ever. ----
Last March 1st he returned to this during the audience with the
participants in the international conference "Man-Woman image of God.
For an anthropology of vocations", reiterating: "Today the worst danger
is gender ideology which cancels out the differences." Therefore
"uglier" than the massacre of the Palestinians in Gaza, the war in
Ukraine, on which his utterances arouse boundless distancing or
admiration, a superlative media echo compared to the general silence on
his continuous attacks on gender, abortion and etc. At the beginning of
January he had reiterated the same concepts at the reception of the
ambassadors; in April 2023 he did so during his visit to Hungary, as he
had done 2 years earlier in Bratislava while meeting the Slovak Jesuits,
defining gender as a "dangerous ideology that allows a person to
abstractly decide at will whether and when to be a man or a woman "; in
October 2016, Georgia called it "a war to destroy marriage". The
occasions on which he raged like a good reactionary pope against
homosexuals, transsexuals and LGBTQUIA+ people cannot be counted.
The broadest effort is found in Amoris Laetitia, the exhortation at the
conclusion of the Synod on the family: «It denies the difference and
natural reciprocity of man and woman», «it envisages a society without
sex differences», «it empties the anthropological basis of family",
"induces educational projects and legislative orientations that promote
a personal identity and emotional intimacy radically detached from the
biological diversity between male and female".
The papal fury is making lies not only for all free and rational people,
but also for some sectors of the church itself, as happened at the last
federal assembly, of the Federation of Catholic Universities (Fuci),
which approved a motion of direction in which we hope for «a Church that
rediscovers itself as truly Christian and abandons all the cultural
overlay that led it, as an institution, to oppress subjectivities and
communities, that refuses to be used to justify discrimination and even
active violence against human beings because of their identity." Even
the diocese of Padua had contradicted the pope some time by speaking of
"instances that deserve to be considered".
On another ethical issue, such as that of the end of life, a new attack
by the CEI, this time on the Emilia Romagna region, guilty of applying,
through a resolution, the ruling of the Constitutional Court 242/2019
which, as is known, covered a void legislative guilt never filled, on
such a delicate topic. The Episcopal Conference says it is alarmed by
this desire "to legitimize medically assisted suicide with an
administrative decree, with a precise timetable for its implementation -
a decision, the bishops write - which disconcerts those who recognize
the absolute value of the human person and of civil community aimed at
promoting and protecting it. We clearly express our concern, our clear
rejection of this choice of euthanasia, well aware of the painful
conditions of sick and suffering people and of those who are linked to
them by sincere affection." So? These people deserve "thoughtful
closeness, the continuation of ordinary and proportionate care,
palliation, and everything else that does not cause abandonment, a sense
of uselessness or burden to those who suffer".
And so they continue to slip into our beds, into our suffering, into our
affections, distracting public opinion (and intoxicating pacifists) with
beautiful words (but without concrete outlets) against the war.
And then there is the other aspect of the Catholic Church that Bergoglio
has only scratched with bombastic and ambiguous declarations, that of
the pedophilia of priests and other Church employees. The sentence of 4
years and 6 months for the priest Giuseppe Rugolo, accused of sexual
violence against a young man, who reported him, is fresh from early
March. The sentence was issued by the Enna court after eight hours of
deliberation. The prosecutor had asked for a heavier sentence, 10 years.
The judges also decided to permanently ban Rugolo from teaching in
school and from holding public offices for five years. The sentence also
declares the Curia of Piazza Armerina to be civilly liable, with
"damages to be quantified and settled separately".
Meanwhile, as we previously wrote about the exorcism story of Altavilla
Milicia, declarations on demonic presences continue to come from the
local Church, and criticisms of the protagonists of the triple murder
for not having turned to it to address the problem. Last September 3, on
the occasion of the preparation of the feast of the Madonna della
Milicia, the rector of the Basilica, Monsignor Salvo Priola, invited
people to pray for demonic presences in the area. Concept reiterated
during Bruno Vespa's program Porta a Porta, with which he was in an
audio video connection. «The Barreca family never asked the parish for
help in this case of alleged diabolical possession. If he had done so -
said the rector Salvo Priola - they would have been helped with the
tools in possession of the Catholic church", declaring "that there are
cases of possession, infestation, demonic disturbances also in Altavilla
Milicia and the surrounding areas". In short, we are in the middle of
the Middle Ages, or rather, in all the obscurantist things that period
reserved for us and handed down to us. The thefts are modern in the
sense that they continue to adapt to the times. The Sassari Prosecutor's
Office, for example, closed the investigation into money laundering and
embezzlement: Antonino Becciu, brother of Cardinal Angelo Becciu, as
head of the Spes social cooperative, the bishop of Ozieri Corrado Melis,
and seven other people were investigated. According to the accusation,
the suspects would have channeled funds of 8 per thousand intended for
the Diocese of Ozieri into the current accounts of the Spes cooperative.
The documents of the Prosecutor's Office speak of a total sum equal to
over 2 million euros which arrived at the disposal of Spes in the period
between January 2013 and February 2023.
This is the Church we like: frank, coherent, always itself. Even when it
has to deal with the great problems of our time, such as the
environmental crisis. Here's what happened a few weeks ago: the Court of
the Holy See sentenced on appeal to nine months, with a suspended
sentence, and to compensation of 28,148 euros, two Last Generation
activists, Ester Goffi and Guido Viero; the report? having glued
themselves inside the Vatican Museums on August 18, 2022, to the statue
of Lacoön to raise public awareness regarding the climate crisis. The
Vatican has proven to be equal to the Meloni government in repressing
those who protest for a just cause, about which the Pope has also
continuously expressed himself (but always with extreme pro-capitalist
ambiguity), attracting the sympathies of the environmentalist world. But
between saying and doing there is... the reactionary essence of the
Catholic religion.
