 Report from a cultural and educational event in Olomouc, the program of

which was also contributed by the local AF group. ---- On Olomouc's
Horní námestí, in the immediate vicinity of the Moravian Philharmonic,
an interesting and pleasant space in the form of a cultural center
called Variation has been operating for the second year. However, this
young project is gaining an important place in the area of Olomouc's
cultural events with its creativity. On the website of these spaces, you
can read, among other things: "Today we can say that our vision with
which we founded Variaci has come true. Actually above expectations.
It's a meeting place with a pleasant club atmosphere, where you can
listen to a great concert or an author's reading, see a theater or a
movie, laugh, hang out with friends, have a drink in our bar."

The local group of the Anarchist Federation took part in one of the
political events called "(public) place" which took place here from
19:00 on Friday 14 June. This evening in Variac brought the screening of
several anthropological short films with different thematic focus, for
example one film was devoted to the documentation of this year's
anti-fascist blockade of the klero-fascist March for Life, which takes
place every year in early April in Prague. The screening of individual
films was preceded by an introductory narration by their creators. In
the next phase of the evening, the audience could enjoy great slum
poets, and then the music production and the company of the participants
followed.

As we mentioned above, the local group AF also participated in the
event, which had a wide range of anarchist publications, mainly produced
by the Anarchist Federation Publishing House. Our only seemingly hidden
place was heavily sought after by those present who knew of our
announced presence. Since the number of participants exceeded the
expectations of the organizers, the interest in anarchist literature was
significantly higher than our expectations. People came to us, looking
through the multitude of books, magazines, brochures, wall newspapers
and stickers. They leafed through everything that caught their eye and
bought a large amount of printed matter. The interest was in all printed
materials. We provided the most copies from the current issue of the
magazine Existence, which is dedicated to Eastern European anarchists.
Among the publications purchased were Peter Kropotkin's Anarchist Ethics
and Mikhail Bakunin's God and the State, among many others. In the case
of the latter book, the buyer could be happy to have gotten one of the
last pieces of this now sold-out effort. Traditionally, some of the
materials offered were intended for free disassembly. It was the May
issue of A3 When people don't matter and a brochure published by our
local group for the occasion of last year's local five-day Stop Economic
Power campaign, developer support does not solve the housing crisis!
People took these A3 issues and these brochures together with the
purchased materials, but also separately. As usual, some also chatted
with us - especially about anarchism and activism.

Other groups participating in the event included the Olomouc Feminist
Collective, whose members presented their activities in Olomouc to those
present. The refreshments, which included, among other dishes, two kinds
of delicious buns, were provided by the Food not Bombs (FNB) group from
Olomouc, which has been cooking and distributing food to the needy in
this city - only with small breaks and with ongoing changes in
membership - since around 2010. Activists FNB brought not only food but
also DIY patches for a voluntary contribution. The entrance fee was
voluntary for the entire event and the proceeds from it go to the FNB
Olomouc group for its further activities. Drinks and something to eat
could of course also be purchased at the Variations bar.

We rate the entire evening rich in program, participation and a great
atmosphere as anything but great. We would like to thank the people
around Variation and the collective organizing the event for providing
the opportunity for our active participation and presentation of our
ideals and organization in the form of a wide range of anarchist
publications, discussions about them or about anarchism and activism in
general. We believe that in the future we will participate in other
great events here and this space will become another place where you
will be able to see us, as it has been for many years, for example, at
the LITR book fair in Olomouc.
