Fellow Alexandre, affectionately called Leco, was a member of the
Anarchist Movement in Brazil, director of the newspaper O Inimigo do Rei(IR), member of the collective Inimigo do Rei in the city of São Paulo,
member of the CCS-SP and many other groups and initiatives throughout
his life. ---- Leco was a teacher and architect, a free spirit with a
libertarian and critical humor. Beloved Father and Husband, passionate
about his family and anarchy. ---- For many of us he was always present:
supportive, with words of encouragement, motivating with humorous and
lucid analyzes and criticisms about our condition in the anarchist and
syndicalist movement, in Brazilian and world society. One of his ways of
expression was through drawing, which can be seen on the IR pages. He
had a special affection for the art of comics, cartoons and the image
language of instant communication of the idea to the reader. Leco said
lately that the movement had to learn new languages to bring libertarian
content to as many people as possible, in a simple, direct and honest
way. The printed newspaper nowadays was no longer a language with a wide
reach for the Brazilian people and worldwide.
Always active in the movement, Leco offered us his experience and
knowledge when invited to give a conference at the 5th General Anarchist
Forum, in Cariacica, Espirito Santo (2022), in which he gave a
conference about his life during the military dictatorship, what the
role of newspaper O Inimigo do Rei in the resistance to the
dictatorship, the defense of freedom and the continuity of the anarchist
movement in Brazil. At this special moment, Leco brought smiles with his
wit and intelligent humor, raising awareness among many regarding
reports of oppression by the military regime against anarchist
militants, especially in São Paulo. He also reported some heroic feats,
such as the achievement of an offset press for the movement.
Currently, Leco was involved in the union, as always, even after
retiring, as he continued working like many other Brazilian workers with
whom he stood shoulder to shoulder throughout his life.
The project to which he dedicated the most feelings and time was the
construction of an Indigenous School in São Paulo, one of his joys,
which he considered "urgently necessary".
In this way, the Federalist Anarchist Initiative - Brazil publicly
expresses its regret at the death of our friend and companion Leco,
Alexandre Sant'Ana. We note the importance of this teacher, architect,
designer, trade unionist, husband, father, friend and companion in our
lives. We thank him for all his work in defending freedom and justice
for the end of the military dictatorship and the end of the
authoritarianism still in force in Brazil. His trajectory and legacy are
marked in us.
