It is common for workers' organizations and movements to see elections
as a time to contest candidates and achieve pending demands. This is notour path. For over 15 years, FOB has maintained its independence from
governments that come and go, while large landowners and businessmen are
served by blue or red ties. We believe that contesting the management of
the State is a game that, although it may guarantee small demands,
divides the class more than it unites for the struggle. We also do not
believe that elections are an opportune moment to publicize our proposal
for organization. What better way to publicize a proposal than to carry
it out? Since our project does not involve the State, it would be
unnecessary confusion to enter this game to point to the exit door. We
seek to practice what we say. The people can do anything when they are
united. Because it is through the unity of the people that we will pave
the way for a dignified life. It will be through direct action, through
organizations in their workplaces, schools and homes.
Therefore, in view of the 2024 municipal elections, the FOB - Federation
of Revolutionary Trade Union Organizations of Brazil, calls on the
working class to join the Don't Vote, Fight campaign under the slogan
"The organized people have more power than any politician". It should
take place between August 16 and October 27, 2024. During this period,
agitation and propaganda activities on the campaign theme should be
carried out, in addition to seeking to carry out protest actions by
pressuring municipal governments to meet the demands of organized
workplaces, schools and homes. This is even more relevant because in
municipal elections, candidates use basic rights as a bargaining chip
for their candidacies: housing (tiles and bags of cement), public health
consultations, jobs, street paving, sanitation, etc.
Although the decision to carry out this campaign was widely debated
throughout the federation, each local context must be observed so that
its implementation has a positive result in the organization.
Following the deliberations of the 2021 FOB national plenary, it is
important to emphasize that we must prioritize tactical alliances in
grassroots work instead of forming alliances with ideological groups
that distance us from our objective as revolutionary trade unionists.
On the page lutafob.org/naovotelute2024, materials and general
guidelines for the campaign will be made available.
