Ten arrests were the repressive report of December 6th in Athens, eight
of which are burdened with heaps of accusations and will be brought tothe investigator tomorrow, Wednesday 11/12, after a 5-day hostage in the
state dungeons. There were also dozens of "preventive" arrests, while
there was no lack of injuries to demonstrators caused by the uniformed
killers of ELAS in their attempt to avenge the December uprising and to
dispel the illusion of their political superiors that the sovereignty of
the state and capital is omnipotent and will never be challenged again.
16 whole years have passed, but the spirit of the December uprising has
not stopped wandering. As a ghost and nightmare for the state and its
mechanisms and as a living beacon for the struggling forces, a signpost
to the new pages of revolutionary history that we are called to write
against the copper-plated bourgeois prognostications that speak of
"recovery" and a return to "normality" with pistol to the temple of the
social majority. The state, 16 years later, has not stopped shooting
16-year-olds and fulfilling its historical role as a mechanism of class
rule and social enslavement. The historical stake for him and for us is
one: whether he will continue to do so undisturbed. 16 years later,
Alexis is killed again and again and the state takes revenge in
December, precisely to ensure the "legal" right to kill in cold blood
without the uprisings, mass struggles and social and class resistances
to prevent it.
December 2008 "farewelled" under tons of marble an era of false
prosperity, built on loans and illusions and "welcomed" the new era of
the unsurpassed global capitalist crisis that characterizes the modern
world. Alexis' generation fought the battles in the squares against the
first memoranda, experienced job insecurity and daily exhaustion,
reached the limits of their endurance to ensure their survival. This
generation meets every 6th of December in those same streets responding
to the constant invitation that every year "awakens" a consciousness
present but grasped, a consciousness that pulsates between the "right"
path (of struggle) and the "wrong" path of compromise and
personalization. She fumbles to find ways to settle down, she waits for
the revolutionary appeal to drag her "where she should", where it is
fair, where the only solution and way out of everyday tyranny is: on the
path of the revolutionary perspective.
16 years later in Athens and Thessaloniki, state terrorism was unleashed
to spread with its omnipotence, the "futility" of the races and the
imposition of the "wrong way" on the racing consciences. The brutal
repression of the annual gathering at the monument of the anarchist
student Alexandros Grigoropoulos has been the constant response of the
state since the first years after the uprising. It is not a "new"
practice, a product of repressive "innovation" initiated by the
sharpening of state authoritarianism under the helm of the neoliberal
government, in the context of a "state diversion", "demolition of
democracy" and "Mitsotakis junta". Who has forgotten the hundreds, if
not thousands, of those injured, brought in and arrested over the years?
The crushing of even the student marches, the asphyxiants in the
apartment buildings, the brutal attacks on the evening demonstrations of
December 6th?
The repressive practice is well known. Canings, disproportionate
indictments, judicial financial strangulation to "break" morale, to
"pay" the costs of the militant action, to "gather" the anarchist
movement in the face of retaliation. But in the end the exact opposite
happens. The more the movement "gathers", the more the repression
intensifies. And the more the movement comes forward, the more it
annihilates the impact of repression, it returns the bill back to the
state. In the end, it is the movement that ultimately decides whether
repression is a cause of raising the revolutionary spirit or a factor of
compromises, tactical "foldings" and unilateral engagement in terms of
entitlement and victimization. Our position is one and unwavering.
Immediate release of those prosecuted on December 6 - Drop the criminal
charges - Dismiss all charges
