LIVORNO ---- Antimilitarist procession and signs on the war memorial for
a November 4 in support of deserters, against all wars, against militaryspending. ---- About 200 people took to the streets of Livorno for an
antimilitarist demonstration on November 4, to overturn the warmongering
propaganda of the "Armed Forces Day" and clearly say "Let's desert all
wars, stop military spending", as reported on the banner that opened the
demonstration organized by the Livorno Antimilitarist Coordination. ----
In addition to the various political, trade union and movement groups
that make up the Antimilitarist Coordination, the Livorno Health
Coordination, the Nonviolent Movement, the Observatory against the
militarization of schools and universities, the Livorno Contro le Guerre
Network, and the Autonomous Port Workers Group, which also placed a
banner reading "Nothing to Celebrate" on the gate of the Classical High
School, in front of the monument to the partisan, where the official
celebrations of November 4th end.
"We reject the militaristic celebration of November 4th of the Armed
Forces Day that celebrates the "Victory" of the First World War that
cost 650 thousand deaths and 1 million wounded on the Italian side
alone. For a long time, the antimilitarist movement has made this day an
important opportunity to fight against all wars and against all armies,
let's take to the streets again this year to make November 4th
Deserters' Day! Refusing to celebrate war is even more important now as
the war in Palestine, Lebanon, and Ukraine intensifies."
With this call, the demonstration gathered at 5:30 pm around the war
memorial in Piazza Magenta where, in a symbolic action, signs
representing broken assault rifles were placed on the monument. After a
few speeches, the demonstrators set off in a procession across Corso
Amedeo to Piazza Attias, from where they moved, after a short stop, from
Via Ricasoli to Piazza Cavour, where the demonstration concluded with
speeches involving passers-by.
The demonstration brought to the square, along with the classic themes
of antimilitarism, the fight for the defense of the health system,
increasingly devastated by privatizations and cuts, the opposition of
workers to arms trafficking in ports and on railways, the fight against
war propaganda and the militarization of schools and universities, which
is conducted by those who study and work in these institutions. A
plurality of themes and collective paths that reflect the rooting of the
opposition to war in different areas of society. November 4 was an
important day of struggle, a stage in a more general relaunch of
antimilitarism that is more necessary than ever today.

PALERMO
Breaking the silence on the war industry
The initiatives for November 4 began with a leaflet distribution on
November 3 in the historic center culminating with a passage in front of
the Casa del Mutilato, a fascist monument that exalts the First World
War and Italian colonialism.
This first passage by the No War Assembly marks the beginning of the
propaganda actions against war and militarism, actions that continue on
the morning of November 4 with the silent presence of non-violent
Palermo citizens at the celebrations in front of the monument to the fallen.
The morning continues with a leaflet distribution by the Observatory
against the militarization of schools and universities together with the
No War Assembly in Piazza Verdi, in front of the Massimo theater, where
the military are present for the occasion, who have transformed the
square into a meeting place for groups.
In the afternoon we returned in front of Leonardo S.P.A. Since the
beginning of the war we have been interested in the industrial sites,
which in Palermo are Leonardo and the Naval shipyards, breaking a veil
of silence and secrecy that has long surrounded these establishments.
The November 4th picket served to denounce the military industrial
complex, remembering the massacres that see the Italian war industry
present in the Ukrainian and Palestinian theaters of war, passing
through Kurdistan and beyond.
We remembered the armed institution, renewing our support for deserters
from all wars, having in our hearts those who refuse not to kill in Gaza
and in the occupied territories and in Lebanon, ideally embracing those
in Russia and Ukraine who sabotage the War by trying to collapse the
front. We totally reject the campist choice of some, keeping in mind
that our indication is internationalism and the collective word that we
like the most is war against the war of the masters, which has
accompanied us in all the demonstrations for more than two years.

TRIESTE
In the square against militarism
On Saturday, November 2nd we were in Largo Barriera for a leaflet
distribution and an antimilitarist information presence against the
celebrations of November 4th, the Armed Forces Day. As in many other
cities, we reiterated our support for deserters and draft dodgers of all
armies, starting with those in Ukraine, Russia and Israel. It was also
an opportunity to publicize the demonstration of November 30th in Cao
Malnisio (PN) against military shooting ranges and wars (do you want to
come? Contact us!).
TURIN
We desert!
On November 4, the anniversary of the "victory" in the First World War,
Italy celebrates the armed forces, a huge massacre to move a border. In
Italy alone, there were 600,000 deaths.
November 4 is the celebration of assassins. Uniforms and reasons of
state transform those who kill, occupy, and bomb into heroes.
In that war, thousands chose to throw down their weapons and ended up
before firing squads.
In Turin, as in many other Italian cities, antimilitarists built squares
of the stateless, squares against all wars and all armies.
On November 2, the meeting was in Via Roma, in front of the headquarters
of the DAP, the Piedmont Aerospace District. The Piedmont Aerospace
District carries out the task of promoting, coordinating, and supporting
the activities of the war industries in the sector. Until his promotion
to Minister of Defense, the DAP was led by Guido Crosetto. To grasp the
importance of this governance body, it is sufficient to take a look at
the list of DAP members, which includes political actors,
industrialists, and research and training centers.
Turin is betting everything on the war industry. They say it produces
wealth, but it only produces death.
Leonardo and the Polytechnic have promoted the City of Aerospace, a
research and design center for the weapons of the future. It is a
project that features Leonardo, the largest Italian war industry, and
the Polytechnic of Turin. They have the support of everyone: from the
municipality, to the region, to the government. This autumn they intend
to begin work in Corso Marche.
The antimilitarists, in the numerous speeches that followed, reiterated
their intention to continue fighting against the transformation of Turin
into a city of weapons, into a war center, where drones and
fighter-bombers are designed and built.
In addition to the Antimilitarist Assembly and members of the
Coordination Against War and Those Who Arm It, political and trade union
groups were present, No Tav, the assembly of the Polytechnic, pacifists,
a Ponte Per, the Observatory Against Schools at War, the group against
nuclear war.
The anarchist and antimilitarist songbook of sTREghe, an anarchotrans
artistic group, alternated speeches and street theater actions
throughout the afternoon.
On November 4, the antimilitarists unexpectedly gathered in front of the
OGR Tech headquarters, giving rise to a noisy protest. OGR Tech is an
innovation hub that hosts a NATO innovation accelerator and a Leonardo Lab.
Leonardo is the main Italian war industry and one of the largest in the
world.
In the Leonardo Labs, research is carried out to make the weapons used
in wars everywhere increasingly deadly.
Italian troops use them in "peace" missions abroad, Italian industries
sell them to countries at war. These weapons have killed millions of
people, destroyed cities and villages, irreparably poisoned entire
territories.
The second stop of the day launched to demilitarize the city was in
front of the Regional School Office, the local branch of the Ministry of
Education and Merit.
Antimilitarists* contested the growing process of militarization of
schools and universities.
Soldiers enter schools every day as "experts", replacing teachers to
make war propaganda.
On the occasion of the Armed Forces Day, the Minister of Defense
Crosetto transformed the Circus Maximus into a gigantic military
training ground for children and teenagers. Among the instructors were
representatives of the elite corps of the armed forces, including the
Folgore paratroopers, the same ones who tortured and raped in Somalia,
the same ones who exalt the fascist and colonialist battle of El Alamein
every year, the same ones engaged in war missions around the world.
War is not a game. In the wars that bloody the world, many girls and
boys are massacred.
The far-right government fuels identity rhetoric, "sacred" borders, the
exaltation of war. Schools and universities have become a battleground
for the enlistment of bodies and consciences.
Antimilitarists have shown solidarity with Ukrainian and Russian
deserters and objectors by gathering in front of the Ukrainian consulate
in Corso Massimo D'Azeglio 12.
Speeches, leafleting, a banner with the words "With Russian and
Ukrainian deserters, against all States!"
Two and a half years after the start of the war in Ukraine, hundreds of
thousands of people have died and six million four hundred thousand
Ukrainians have had to abandon their homes.
Both in Russia and Ukraine, tens of thousands of people have deserted.
In Russia, opposition to the war has cost many people prison and
torture. And yet it shows no signs of abating.
In Ukraine, professional recruiters storm public transport, markets, and
shopping malls, looking for men of the right age to capture and drag to
the front. But they don't have an easy life: many people get in the way
of preventing forced enlistments.
The war, unleashed after Hamas's ferocious attack on the Israeli
civilian population, with killings, rapes, and kidnappings, has reduced
most of Gaza's homes, hospitals, and infrastructure to a pile of rubble.
The Gazan population is trapped in a death trap with no way to escape.
The death toll, over forty thousand, grows day by day among a population
gutted by bombs, without water, food, or shelter.
Even in Israel, there are those who refuse to enlist, those who do not
accept the occupation and apartheid and oppose them, paying a heavy
price. A document by young Gazans tells us that, even in those
conditions, there are those who reject nationalism and the religious war
desired by the governments of both sides.
During the First World War, on all fronts, thousands of people deserted
and ended their lives in front of a firing squad.
The Turin squares of November 2 and 4 keep alive the memory of the
deserters and the homeless of that time, in concrete solidarity with
those who today desert the wars that bloody the planet. Everywhere.
There are no good nationalisms!
We desert!
