Despite Raffaele Fitto having shown off all his qualities as a former
Christian Democrat, his efforts to erase his sovereignist choices do notseem to have been successful, also due to the crossed vetoes of his
candidacy with that of the Spanish socialist candidate Teresa Ribeira,
socialist. ---- Meloni's calculations, who thought she had secured her
candidacy thanks to the axis established with Ursula von der Leyen,
increasingly weak and in need of support from wherever it comes, risk
turning out to be wrong. On the other hand, the entire staff of the new
commission, which is extremely weak and looks like clay pots that have
to travel on the same wagon with the steel ones represented by Trump and
his supporters, are the weak ones. The weakness of the president of the
commission lies precisely in the fact that she has to seek support from
those in those forces that play the role of agents operating in the
European Union, the name on behalf of those who have an interest in
weakening it, namely the Trump administration and the and Great Britain
who have every intention of completing the process of downsizing Germany
and substantially dismembering the European Union. The weakening
strategy travels on some key axes that paradoxically are shared by the
new Commission in which political infantilism and the vacuity of two
arrogant and present-minded women reign, von der Leyen and Metzola, who,
full of themselves, think they are great politicians. They do not
realize that doing everything to enlarge the Union to Ukraine, Moldova,
Georgia and so on, constitutes a lever to weaken the Union by fueling
its heterogeneity, introducing countries that do not possess the
parameters to be an organic part of it, weakening the Union and its
decision-making capabilities. By shouldering the reconstruction of
Ukraine, they are compromising its economic and financial capacity and
putting the welfare of the states that are part of it into crisis by
absorbing its resources.
Boasting that this is a deal that will bring economic benefits to
everyone, they fail to say that the companies that win the contracts
will have something to gain from the eventual reconstruction of what
will remain of Ukraine after the Russians have stripped it, while the EU
and therefore the people of the countries that are part of it will pay.
Ukraine is a failed state and it is unthinkable that peace should
involve the Russians paying for war damages, in any form.
The leader of the Christian Social Party Weber knows this well: he does
not particularly like Europe but on the one hand, in addition to
aspiring to replace von der Leyen, he wants to bring Germany back to the
center of European politics and understands the usefulness of a
partnership with a future chancellor of his own party who guarantees
teamwork and unity of purpose. The next elections in Germany are the
opportunity to implement this change and open up to the right by using
opposition to the war as common ground, now made easier by Trump's policies.
And therefore the crisis of the commission is welcome because in any
case the elected body will be a weak one, subject to the moods of a
variable and always uncertain majority, as the vote on the forestry law
has shown, and this at a time when Europe needs a strong guide and a
cohesive leadership, characterized by clarity of political views and
unity of purpose. For these reasons the stalemate is destined to last
almost until the outcome of the elections in Germany which will in any
case have profound repercussions on the future destiny of the European
Commission.
A bad investment of six million euros
The one who risks being burned by these inconsistent policies of the
Commission is the Italian government, which has allocated - as stated in
the Budget - a good six million euros for the organization on 10 and 11
July 2025 in Rome of a conference of those investors who should divide
up the contracts to provide for the reconstruction of Ukraine. A deal
that is worth hundreds of billions of euros and that is tempting for the
main European companies.
The main items of expenditure: 1.9 million for rent, adaptation and
set-up of the event, 875 thousand euros, catering (6 coffee breaks of 30
euros for 3,500 people and a breakfast and a dinner at a cost of 70
euros), one million for reception services, 600 thousand euros for
accreditation services, 300 thousand euros for the website and
communication and the same for two preparatory events, 150 thousand for
think tank consultancy.
For the hospitality of the particularly large Ukrainian delegation: food
and lodging for two nights at a cost of 250 euros for approximately 350
people (175 thousand euros in total) and 350 thousand euros in airfare
(each ticket costs one thousand euros!).
Furthermore, "the high uncertainty of the military and political
framework that characterizes the Ukrainian crisis" recommends "reserving
a quota for unforeseen events", of 250,000 entrusted to the direct
management of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The tenders reserved for
friends of friends to grab the contracts are open!
Considering that the outcome of the war will leave a large part of the
country's productive areas in the hands of the Russians, the questions
regarding who will gain from all this remain, and are not enough to
justify the policies of the Democratic Party and in particular of its
exponents such as the European parliamentarian Giuseppina Picerno former
vice president, who, not by chance, after having tenaciously supported
the commitment in the Ukrainian war, is working for a convergence on the
name of Fitto.
