We present a conversation that a comrade from Embat (LibertarianOrganization of Catalonia) was able to have with Endika Albort,
professor, researcher, activist of ICEA (Institute of Economic Sciences
and Self-management) and CNT; during his stay in Catalonia. We were able
to talk in person, because he was giving a conference for the CESL of
Granollers (https://x.com/CentreEstudisSL), about economic criticism,
planning and its relationship with the world of work and the environment.
We think that this has been an introductory conversation, but that it
can be useful to learn about the proposals that exist on economics and
planning, where positions from various socialist currents are coming
together. We talk for example about Parecon, or cybercommunism.
Below we leave you some notes in case you want to go deeper:
The Institute of Economic Sciences and Self-Management (ICEA) is an
organization that develops educational and research activities in
political economy, social sciences and self-management, labor and social
sciences. It is based on principles of assembly, federalism, solidarity
and mutual support.
ICEA is open to students, teachers and professionals of various social
and human sciences, as well as the organized working class. Its
objective is to deepen the knowledge of contemporary economic and social
dynamics and collaborate to transform capitalist society into a society
without exploitation.
ICEA also produces cultural, training and technical content for social
transformation. INDEP.network organizes workshops, courses and
conferences on the functioning of the capitalist economic system, as
well as alternative economic and social forms that replace capitalism
with a socio-economic system based on self-management.
The organization also publishes newspapers, reports and books to support
labor and social struggles and self-management of the means of production.
INDEP.network is an international network of workers, students,
researchers and activists working towards a post-capitalist economic
system based on democratic economic planning.
The network aims to catalyze the process of transformation of society
towards a system based on democratic economic planning, which they
advocate as an alternative to both command and market economies.
Democratic economic planning means that important decisions about
production, reproduction, consumption, distribution, investment and
other aspects of life are determined consciously and collectively
through democratic processes rather than by state authorities or market
"forces." Command economies and "free" market societies are rejected,
and a focus is placed on a free, popular society that is not under the
control of a state authority.
INDEP's values include inclusiveness, diligence, respect, equity,
autonomy, democracy and collaboration. They encourage active
participation, maintain a fair distribution of work and expenses, and
facilitate member initiatives. They also ensure that the network is
transparent and inclusive, promoting open communication and
collaboration among its participants.
